Gasgoo Munich- On March 5, NIO Inc. announced a new manufacturing milestone as its two-millionth electric drive unit rolled off the production line at the company’s second electric drive plant in Hefei. The achievement underscores NIO’s expanding in-house capability in developing and producing core electric powertrain components.

The two-millionth unit produced is a rear electric drive system destined for the latest generation of the NIO ES8, one of the company’s flagship all-electric SUVs. The model itself recently reached another production milestone, surpassing 70,000 units in cumulative deliveries as of February 27. NIO said the advanced automation and production efficiency of its Hefei facility has played a crucial role in ensuring stable supply for the All-New ES8 program.
NIO’s self-developed electric drive systems have moved rapidly through successive industrialization milestones. The company’s first electric drive manufacturing plant in Hefei reached cumulative production of 500,000 units in July 2022 and surpassed one million units in March 2024. Less than two years later, the second facility has now pushed total output to two million units, highlighting the pace at which NIO has scaled its core drivetrain manufacturing.
Located within the NeoPark industrial complex in Hefei, Anhui province, the second electric drive plant supports large-scale production of key components including permanent-magnet motors, induction drive systems, rotors and stators using wave-winding technology, as well as electronic drive controllers.

A centerpiece of the facility is its highly automated 925-volt flat-wire stator production line. According to the company, the system employs advanced three-dimensional integrated wave-winding and automated insertion processes, enabling production efficiency of about 94% while maintaining a product qualification rate of roughly 99.6%. The manufacturing setup is designed to support the next generation of high-voltage electric powertrains used across NIO’s expanding lineup of battery-electric vehicles.
