Webasto’s new roof-mounted air conditioning system delivers up to 12 kW of cooling power and operates at voltages between 250 and 460 volts DC. It has been specifically designed for light commercial vehicles with electric powertrains. Thanks to its cooling capacity, the system reliably maintains a comfortable interior temperature even in high ambient temperatures and under full load.

The air conditioning unit measures 1.61 x 1.2 x 0.30 metres, weighs around 80 kilogrammes, and uses the refrigerant R1234yf. Webasto emphasises that this refrigerant has a comparatively low global warming potential (GWP) and is pre-filled in the system upon delivery. The Cool Top 120-e provides cooling both when stationary and while driving. “Once the target temperature is reached, the compressor’s variable speed control automatically adjusts the output to match the cooling demand,” the supplier explains. The system then operates at partial load, ensuring quiet performance. Additionally, a fresh air function is available to enhance comfort inside the vehicle when needed.

Installation and commissioning of the roof-mounted air conditioning system are streamlined via a plug-and-play system. Integration into existing vehicle systems is achieved via CAN bus, or alternatively, the system can be controlled using an optional Webasto operating unit. The housing of the roof-mounted unit can also be painted to match the vehicle’s colour, and air outlets and ducts are customisable. According to Webasto, the system is available immediately through specialist dealers, with a recommended net retail price of €7,059.
