Amsterdam-based PowerShelter is bringing its e-bike battery charging stations to North America with the launch of its global Partner Programme.

PowerShelter builds fire-safe, theft-proof ‘Shelters’ that let commercial and recreational riders charge e-bike batteries outside homes and workplaces. Last summer, the company launched Amsterdam’s first public e-bike charging network, aiming to address a growing rise in battery fires and bike theft across the Dutch capital.

Through its Partner Programme, the company is now bringing its Shelters to property owners across North America. PowerShelter aims to close the gap between commercial riders maximising vehicle uptime and charging wherever possible and landlords grappling with fire risk and liability.

“Our goal is to provide the infrastructure backbone e-mobility desperately needs,” Jake De Wulf, Co-Founder of PowerShelter told Zag Daily. Wulf said that safe charging infrastructure is “too often” treated as an afterthought.

“Whether it’s a delivery rider in Europe or a condo resident in North America, the principle is simple: safe, accessible charging should be the baseline.”

How the Partner Programme works

The Partner Programme is designed to accelerate deployment of PowerShelter’s lockers while giving local partners control of customer relationships and installations.

PowerShelter supplies the hardware and technical support, while partners manage property owner engagement. Resellers can purchase units at wholesale and oversee sales, installation and servicing locally. Referral partners, meanwhile, introduce PowerShelter to clients and earn commission, with the company handling fulfilment.

The lockers can be installed at apartment buildings, offices, retail locations, fleet depots, parking garages, mobility hubs and other sites. Who can use the lockers is determined by the property owner or fleet manager, whether for resident or staff-only use or available to the public.

PowerShelter is targeting both commercial operators and private riders. Said to be compatible with any bike battery brand, the lockers are integrated with fire suppression systems, advanced gas detection technology and can charge batteries within two to six hours.

First partners onboard

Canadian bicycle parking provider Monashee Racks has become the programme’s first official partner. The company supplies bike racks, bollards and barriers and will now add PowerShelter’s charging lockers to its offering.

“Integrating PowerShelter’s technology into our portfolio allows us to offer the most secure e-bike battery charging available in North America,” said Ashton Olsen, Founder of Monashee Racks.

Adding to Monashee’s reach in Canada is EV charging infrastructure specialist Signature Electric.

Back in its home nation of the Netherlands, PowerShelter is expanding through a partnership with Fleet Facilities, a company that has evolved from sustainable vehicle leasing into charging and parking infrastructure.

“We see that demand is broadening further, from electric cars to e-bikes and other light electric vehicles,” said Henk Gijssen, Co-owner of Fleet Facilities. “With PowerShelter, we are adding a specialised solution that perfectly complements our existing services.”

With additional partners being finalised, PowerShelter is positioning its infrastructure and the global partner programme as the practical link between the rapid growth of e-bikes and property owners’ concerns around safety, risk and liability.
