Just over a year ago, news broke that Tesla was eyeing a vacant building and lot in Portland, Maine, to build their very first dedicated showroom and service center in the state.
That building and lot is located at 35 Riverside Street right on the Westbrook and Portland town line. The building had been the former home of VIP Tires and Service.
Fast forward more than a year later and there doesn’t seem to be much stirring or signs of life at the Riverside Street location. So what is going on?
It’s Possible Tesla Has Abandoned Plans For a Portland, Maine, Showroom
According to the Portland Press Herald, as of February of 2025, a significant portion of construction work had been done to the building at 35 Riverside Street with Tesla looking to add signage to the lot.
At one point, Tesla listed a service center as “coming soon” on their website at an undisclosed location in Portland. That listing has officially been removed.
Additionally, there does not seem to be any work being done on the lot of the exterior of the building at 35 Riverside Street suggesting the project has been abandoned, postponed or is simply on hold.
The Closest Tesla Showroom to Maine is in Portsmouth, New Hampshire
While the future of the Portland, Maine, showroom and service center seems murky, Tesla lovers can still find a showroom relatively close.
Tesla is still operating a showroom in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, as well as additional dealership locations in Londonderry and Salem.
