Both the Pro SWB (five-seat) and Pro LWB (seven-seat) models sit under the Luxury Car Tax threshold, which is great news for families looking at salary sacrifice or novated lease options to make the switch to electric.

The ID Buzz Pro comes very well equipped as standard, with electric sliding doors on both sides featuring Easy Open and Easy Close, clever LED headlights, a 12.9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 3-zone climate control, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, Area View surround cameras, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

How big is the boot of the 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro SWB?
The boot of the Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro is enormous! You can open the boot door with the touch of a button, and the same to close it. It does make a subtle beeping noise as it goes up and down.

When the boot of the Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro is empty, it will hold a whopping 22 shopping bags. That is a fantastic amount of space and on par with large seven and eight-seat SUVs like the Hyundai Palisade when using only two rows and the VW Caddy People Mover, and is just short of bigger people movers like the Hyundai Staria and the family favourite Kia Carnival which will both hold 24 shopping bags.

The Thule Sleek, future-proof, multi-configuration pram with a single seat…

…will fit standing up in the boot of the Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro without even needing to collapse it, with 11 shopping bags. That is a massive win for parents!

…will fit in the boot standing up without collapsing, with 11 shopping bags.

The Thule Sleek, future-proof, multi-configuration pram with a single seat and the bassinet…

…will fit in the boot of the Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro with 10 shopping bags.

The boot space and its functionality are really important. I like to have a big boot space and little side wells or areas I can divide things into. So something I don’t want to move around while I’m driving such as my daughter’s lunch bag or her wet swimming gear can be sectioned off in a little well where it’s not going to spill or get squashed by the rest of the things in the boot.
Hooks for securing shopping bags to are also favourites of mine, I like being able to secure the bag containing more fragile things like eggs so they don’t move around on the journey.
I measure the boot space in freezer shopping bags, prams and dogs. Not because I think all there is to a mum’s life is food shopping, prams and dogs. (Although it can feel like it sometimes!!) But because these are visually measurable items we can all associate with. For me, the car company boot measurement of litres is not an amount I can easily visualise and 400L in one car may differ in usability to that in another due to the configuration or shape of the space.

The boot of the Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro can also accommodate two 90-litre, two 70-litre, and one 40-litre Thule Chasm duffel bags.

Large dogs can fit comfortably in the boot of the ID Buzz Pro too.

How good is the storage in the Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro for families?
When it comes to storage in the rest of the 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro SWB, it is fantastic for families. The cabin is really lovely and comfortable and very modern, and somehow it still feels a little bit like the original VW Kombi, with the enormous windscreen and the seating position.

In the front of the ID Buzz Pro, the storage is brilliant. One of the features I love is the removable central console that VW calls the ID Buzz Box. It has several storage compartments and mounting points, and on the top it’s great for snacks, phones, and all sorts of storage. When you remove it, you’ve got a walk-through to the back, which is exactly what our original Kombi had — and it’s fantastic for reaching back to your kids!

There are two cup holders that fold down in the front, and they will hold a reusable or disposable coffee cup. There’s also a ‘butt bucket’ or rubbish bucket that you can pop in there too, which is really nice and handy when your kids pass their treasures through from the back.

The glove box is a good size and will hold an iPad and wallet with the manual. There’s also a grippy shelf above the glove box, really good for phones and things on road trips.

The front door bins are a good size. They will hold a refillable water bottle and an iPad and wallet. Above them is another grippy shelf with USB-C, so there’s lots of storage in the front here and it’s really useful.

There is a wireless phone charging slot beside the steering wheel…

…and another little shelf good for the key on the other side.

In the second row of the ID Buzz Pro, storage is also impressive. In the back of the central console box, there’s a large drawer you can pull out, and kids’ books, snacks, or phones fit in there really easily.

On the back of both front seats, there are map pockets that will hold and conceal an iPad. Above them is a tray table that flips up with a cup holder that will hold a kid’s drink cup. My kids loved having those — they thought they were on an aeroplane!

Above the tray table is another little pocket that’s great for popping a phone or a kid’s toy in.

The rear sliding door bins are enormous. You could easily fit a water bottle or an iPad in there. Above them there’s another grippy shelf where you can pop a phone without it moving around. There are also USB-C charging sockets in the rear doors.

There are USB-C charging sockets throughout the vehicle, with two in the dashboard and additional sockets for the front passenger and rear seats, with charging capacity up to 45 watts which is good for tablets and some laptops. There’s also a 12-volt outlet in the boot.

The front visors include lit vanity mirrors, which is a nice touch.

In the boot there is storage on both sides for models that have three rows of seats. An iPad slot, phone tray & USB-C socket and cup holder on both sides.

How many child seats will fit in the Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro?
Three! This five-seater 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro SWB has ISOFix in the two outer second-row seats.

They’re not within plastic guides, but they’re really nice and easy to connect to.

There are top tether anchorages on the back of all three second-row seat backs, and they’re easily accessible either through the boot or by sliding the second-row seats forward.

I could fit three child seats really nice and easily across the second row. It’s really spacious back here, with lots of room around them.

The second-row seats are split 60:40, and you can slide them backwards and forwards to distribute legroom however you need, or to increase boot space. This is a really handy feature for families.

Legroom in the ID Buzz is ample! We managed to fit a 186-centimetre driver in front of a rear-facing child seat, and possibly you could get a taller driver in there if you need to. The footwell is really nice and flat in the second row, so it’s really easy for kids to access their seats and for grown-ups too.

The electric sliding doors on both sides of the ID Buzz are absolutely fantastic for families. They prevent kids from opening the door out into the car next to you in the car park, which is a huge win!

How comfortable is the 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro SWB for families?
All members of the family will be kept comfortable in the Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro.

Passengers are well catered for in terms of climate control, with air vents in the ceiling on both sides of the second row as well as in the ceiling above the boot area. The ID Buzz Pro features 3-zone air conditioning, so every zone can be set to a different temperature.

There are also controls for the rear air conditioning above the left-hand side ceiling in the back, and you can lock the rear climate controls from the front as well, which is great when you’ve got little ones who fiddle with everything!

There are lights in the ceiling in the back too, which you can press on or turn on from the front as well.
I have found our daughter does not like travelling in the dark in the car so if it gets dark whilst travelling then I reach back and turn the interior light on for her. So it’s really important for me that I can reach the rear ceiling light.
Also if I am traveling home and it is getting near to bed time and I DEFINITELY DON’T want her to fall asleep in the car as even a 5-minute nap in the car means bed time is all over!!!! I lean back and pop the light on so it’s not dark and try to keep her awake!! Along with screaming/singing at the top of my voice!!!
It is also useful when there are lights situated above the doors where the handles are usually positioned. These are good for when putting baby into their child seats when visibility is poor, so you do not have to reach across them to a light situated in the ceiling centrally etc.

The front seats are comfortable in the Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro. You’ve got heated seats as standard with manual height adjustment for both front seats. The leather-wrapped steering wheel is heated too, which is a lovely touch for cold mornings. I was surprised for the money that the seats are cloth and not leather but they seem sturdy and easy enough to clean.

The media system in the Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro is on a 12.9-inch colour touchscreen and is really lovely and simple to use.

You’ve got shortcuts along the top of the screen, and you can access your charging screen, vehicle settings, and customise everything how you like it.

It does have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto built in and wireless, so you can easily access your phone and apps while driving.

You can change the sound profile in the ID Buzz Pro, which is a really good one for families. There are selections including Pure, Relaxed, Speech, and Vibrant, so you can customise the sound experience for your family.

If you go into settings, you can change lots of things about the vehicle and customise it how you like. You can also select different drive modes to suit your driving style.

When you put the ID Buzz Pro into reverse, you’ve got lovely clear camera views. You can change the view and the Area View surround camera system makes it really easy to see all around you. You can turn the parking sensors on and off with a button on the screen as well.

The climate controls are along the bottom of the screen and pop up when you press there, with the ability to control and lock the rear climate from the front.

Being fully electric, the Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro is really nice and quiet, which is wonderful for sleeping babies.

Becoming a parent I soon realised there are some noises and sounds I feel are unnecessary and I could happily live without if it meant my baby stayed asleep!!
That often the distraction of my screaming, distressed baby is more dangerous when driving than not having a lane departure warning for example.
The electric sliding doors open and close with a lovely smooth action and wouldn’t disturb sleeping passengers.

With baby asleep you can get in and out without worrying the doors will be too noisy. The same for the windows their mechanism is not too noisy and I didn’t notice them having a loud opening or closing sound.
With baby asleep you want to be able to get in and out without worrying the doors will be too noisy and wake Bub up!
How safe is the 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro SWB for families?
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: The Volkswagen ID Buzz five-star ANCAP safety rating applies to short wheelbase five-seat variants only. The long wheelbase Pro (7-seater) and GTX models are NOT covered by this rating.

The Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro SWB comes with a five-star ANCAP safety rating, scoring 92% for adult occupant protection and 89% for child occupant protection. The ID Buzz also scored 60% for vulnerable road user protection and 81% for safety assist.

According to ANCAP, in the frontal offset and side impact tests, protection of both the 10-year and 6-year child dummies was rated as GOOD, with the Volkswagen ID Buzz scoring maximum points in these tests.
The Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro features the following airbags as standard:
Dual frontal, side chest-protecting and side head-protecting (curtain) airbags are standard. A centre airbag which provides added protection to front seat occupants in side impact crashes is also standard.

The Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro comes with comprehensive active safety technologies as standard, including autonomous emergency braking (AEB) — Car-to-Car, Vulnerable Road User and Junction Assist (branded as Front Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Monitoring), adaptive cruise control (ACC) with stop and go, and a lane support system with lane keep assist (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW), and emergency lane keeping (ELK), branded as Lane Assist.
The driver-assist safety features also include semi-automated driving assistance Travel Assist, forward collision warning (FCW), blind spot monitor (BSM) branded as Side Assist, rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA), exit warning system, swerve support and oncoming vehicle braking when turning, electronic stability control (ESC), emergency brake assist (EBA), fatigue monitor and detection, front and rear parking sensors (Park Distance Control), Area View surround cameras, secondary/multi-collision brake, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and anti-lock braking system (ABS).

It’s worth noting that the ID Buzz does not have AEB Backover functionality, meaning the AEB system does not react to vulnerable road users when reversing.
The ID Buzz also features a seatbelt reminder system with occupancy detection for all seating positions, IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlamps with automatic headlight control and dynamic cornering light, and a proactive passenger protection system.
Some of these safety features are also features that drive me crazy as a mum! Like the lane departure and forward collision alert or the parking sensor beeping sound. I want all the safety technology AND to be able to mute the sound when Bub’s asleep!
What is the 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro SWB like to drive?
The Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro is really lovely to drive. It’s really fun and just feels cheeky to drive — there’s something about it that puts a smile on your face every time!

Being fully electric, it’s nice and smooth and quiet, which is wonderful for families. It’s got about 422 kilometres of range on the battery, which is ample for weekly commutes and school drop-offs but I can understand why some parents are disappointed as it could be limiting for road trips if you’re nervous about charging along the way.

Also being fully electric, you’ve got the great benefit of being able to sit with the climate control on while your little ones have fallen asleep in the back, without chewing through fuel or producing emissions. That is a massive win for parents!

The turning circle is really good, so parking and manoeuvring is nice and easy. The steering is nice and light, and the visibility is really good as well. I can see straight out the back, even with three child seats installed, and with the cameras and mirrors too, I felt really confident driving in tight car parks.

The enormous windscreen gives you a fantastic view of the road, and the seating position is lovely and high, which gives you a great vantage point for seeing what’s happening around you.
One thing I have noticed since being a mum is I hate it when I reach a destination or get home from being out and the kids have either done really well in the car or she is screaming her head off and I have done really well to keep it together for the entire journey (usually the latter!!) and it takes 10 minutes to park the car! It can be really stressful.

When it comes to charging, the ID Buzz Pro can DC fast charge at up to 200kW, getting from 10% to 80% in about 26 minutes. Two charging cables are included as standard — a Mode 2 cable for home wall sockets and a Mode 3 Type 2 cable for public AC chargers.

Additional Information:
Volkswagen offers a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty for the ID Buzz range, plus an eight-year, 160,000-kilometre warranty on the high-voltage battery pack, which guarantees at least 70% of its capacity in that period. Service intervals are every 24 months or 30,000 kilometres, whichever comes first, which means less time spent at the dealership compared to a petrol or diesel car.

The 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro SWB features electric sliding doors on both sides with Easy Open and Easy Close, a power tailgate, power sliding windows in the passenger compartment, keyless entry and start, and dark-tinted heat-reflecting rear windows. The heated windshield is a nice touch for those cold winter mornings too.

Compare the Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro:
If you are looking at the 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro SWB as a five-seat electric people mover for your family, you may want to consider the Kia EV9, which offers seven seats and a fully electric powertrain, though at a higher price point.

For families wanting a more affordable people mover and who don’t need to go electric, the Kia Carnival Hybrid…

…and Hyundai Staria both offer eight seats and practicality, though without the electric driving experience.

If you love the van format but prefer a conventional powertrain at a lower price point, the VW Caddy People Mover is also worth a look.

BabyDrive Verdict on the 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro SWB
To sum up, the 2025 Volkswagen ID Buzz Pro SWB is a fantastic BabyDrive. You can fit three child seats across really nice and easily in that second row, with lots of room around them and fantastic legroom.

The boot space is absolutely enormous — as you’ve seen, we’ve been able to stand the range of Thule prams up in the boot without even having to collapse them down, which is such a win for parents!

The electric sliding doors are a massive win for families, preventing kids from opening the door out into the car park. And being fully electric means you can sit quietly with the climate on while your little ones sleep, without burning any fuel.

The drive is fantastic. Not only is it a really happy car to look at and really good fun to drive, but the cameras are excellent and the media system is nice and easy to use as well. The removable central console is a clever touch that gives you the option of a walk-through to the back, just like the original Kombi.

It’s important to note that only the SWB five-seater is covered by the five-star ANCAP safety rating. If you need seven seats, the LWB model is available but is currently unrated by ANCAP. With about 422 kilometres of range on a full charge and DC fast charging capability, the ID Buzz Pro is well suited to family life whether it’s the daily school run or weekend adventures.

The storage throughout the cabin is excellent, with clever features like the flip-up tray tables that made my kids feel like they were on an aeroplane, and the removable ID Buzz Box central console. It truly is a modern take on the iconic Kombi, and it works brilliantly for families.
