LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Legacy Golf Club in Henderson is facing thousands of dollars in repairs after a group of kids damaged multiple greens Saturday evening, leaving the public course’s general manager calling the destruction “really disappointing.”

“To see that investment and all that time and effort and energy over the last 26 months kind of being damaged or destroyed within a few minutes was just really disappointing,” said Trey Orrell, the club’s general manager.

The damage was reported on holes 3, 4, and 5, where the greens were left visibly torn up. Orrell said the financial impact will be significant.

“So the initial estimate was anywhere from about $10,000 to $15,000 in damage out there on the greens,” Orrell said.

Orrell said it will take substantial business to make up for the repairs.

“It is going to be over a thousand rounds,” he said.

Legacy Golf Club is one of a few public golf options in Henderson, a city known for high-end resorts and exclusive private courses.

Golfer Melvin Gordon, a former NFL Pro Bowler who frequents the course to practice and play, said the damage affects more than the club’s bottom line.

“I think those kids just do not understand,” Gordon said.

Orrell said he wants those responsible to be held accountable.

“Understanding that there are consequences to your actions,” Orrell said.

Gordon said the kids could also learn by being introduced to the game and what it takes to maintain a course.

“Somebody needs to take those kids on a round of golf so they can respect everyone and everything around it that comes with this game,” Gordon said.

The former Wisconsin star also spoke about his social golf club, Vibez Golf Club. As of Tuesday afternoon, the suspects are also on the loose.

Legacy is still open for business despite the inconvenience.
