WHEELING, W.Va. — Electric vehicle drivers in Wheeling could soon have more places to charge up, as the city plans to install new charging stations at two locations, contingent on receiving grant funds.
The city is set to use a $73,915 grant from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program to expand access to electric vehicle charging across Wheeling.
Assistant City Manager Bill Lanham said two chargers will be installed at the Lower Market House in Centre Market, with three more planned for the Intermodal Parking Garage next to WesBanco Arena on the second floor.
“Hopefully within the next few months,” he said. “This has been a 2-year grant and we do have that contract awarded and we just did that adoption through council,” Lanham said. “We’re hoping that it’s just around the corner.”

Drivers would be required to pay a fee using a credit card to charge their vehicles. The installation timeline will be determined by when the city receives the funds.
