The latest invention from James Bruton, dubbed “Ike,” reimagines personal transport by rolling on a single, massive ball.
Unlike his previous prototype which utilized two balance balls, which was reported by Interesting Engineering, this new iteration requires constant computer-driven corrections to maintain an upright position.
By reducing the contact point to a single sphere, Bruton has created a machine that must dynamically manage stability across two axes simultaneously while carrying a human rider.
“There are a few extra challenges, like how to turn to steer, and also making omni-wheels strong enough, because there are only three this time and not six, and these need to support me on top,” said Bruton.
