Plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) are often considered a first step between gasoline models and fully electric vehicles, combining several advantages of both powertrains: low fuel consumption and the ability to travel long distances without needing to recharge.
However, for their purchase to make sense, PHEVs must have sufficient electric range. When the battery is depleted, they are generally less efficient than a comparable traditional hybrid version due to the weight of their battery.

This internal combustion engine, producing 201 hp, is supported by a single 134-hp electric motor, for a total combined output of 313 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Its battery, with a usable capacity of 24.8 kWh, allows it to reach an electric range of 87 km—the longest for any PHEV currently sold in Canada. The GLC 350e also stands out for its compatibility with DC fast charging up to 60 kW.

The sixth-generation 2026 Toyota RAV4 offers a plug-in hybrid powertrain developing a net combined output of 324 hp. Its electric range has increased by 20% compared to the previous generation to reach 80 km, and the XSE version with the Technology package now supports fast charging via a CCS port. This model debuts the Arene software platform, the Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 security suite, and offers a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. We do not yet know the starting price for this model, which is expected to arrive in dealerships shortly.

Standard equipment includes the second-generation MBUX interface, wireless smartphone connectivity, and a 360° camera. With 79 km of electric range, the GLE 450e has little competition in its segment.
