Walmart has released a mid-drive electric gravel bike, the Ozark Trail G.2 Rebel+, equipped with a feature set we typically only see on much more expensive ebikes. With a torque-sensing Ananda mid-drive motor, a gravel-specific microSHIFT Sword drivetrain, and TRP hydraulic-actuated brakes, this bike is one of the most interesting options at this price point. In this review, we explore whether these impressive specs translate to a quality ride feel or if the affordable price tag hides significant downsides.
We put the Rebel+ through a rigorous testing regiment, including a long gravel ride and a struggle up our “Bush Push” hill climb where we found the limits of traction. We also address the build quality issues we encountered out of the box, specifically a front wheel that needed truing.
