The Knightville neighborhood just gained four new electric vehicle chargers that are pay-for-use and open to the public.
With grant funding from the Efficiency Maine Trust’s EV charging initiative, the city installed four Level 2 charging ports in Legion Square Park near the post office. The city paid for a third of the cost.
“By making charging visible and convenient, we’re supporting cleaner transportation and helping our community make the shift to electric,” said Julie Rosenbach, the city’s sustainability director.
Each charging port will deliver up to 11.2 kW, which would allow drivers up to 30 miles of range per hour of charging, at a cost of $0.34 per kWh.
The city is looking to expand its public EV charging offerings. The chargers at city buildings are for municipal fleet use only, with the exception of pay-for-use chargers at the community center.
