LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Tesla driver is facing DUI and hit-and-run charges after striking a family of three on a sidewalk Sunday evening, leaving a woman and toddler with life-threatening injuries.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:35 p.m. at East Harmon Avenue and Audrie Lane, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
A gray 2026 Tesla Model Y was traveling eastbound on Harmon Avenue when the driver failed to maintain his lane and drove onto the south sidewalk, police said. The Tesla re-entered the roadway and struck the rear of a stopped 2024 Chevrolet Trax before returning to the sidewalk.
The Tesla then struck two adults and a 2-year-old in a stroller who were waiting on the southwest corner of the intersection, police said.
The Tesla driver fled eastbound without stopping and was followed by a witness to the Topgolf parking lot at 4627 Koval Lane, where he was later located by police.
Gavin Caci, 28, of Las Vegas, showed signs of impairment and was booked on DUI and hit-and-run charges, police said.
The three pedestrians, visitors from the United Kingdom, were transported to University Medical Center Trauma Center. A 38-year-old man suffered minor injuries, while a 32-year-old woman and the 2-year-old girl sustained life-threatening injuries.
The Chevrolet driver also suffered minor injuries.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
