SAIC Volkswagen has officially released the first images of the new Tiguan L ePRO, the plug-in hybrid version of the popular midsize crossover. The model features an updated design in an “energy” style and a modern PHEV powertrain. Its official debut is expected in June 2026.Externally, the Tiguan L ePRO retains the recognizable proportions of the Tiguan L Pro but includes several stylistic changes that emphasize its hybrid status. The front end has a smaller radiator grille, a larger area of body-colored elements, and prominent side air intakes.The LED lighting is connected by a light strip, and the Volkswagen logo is now illuminated, creating a bright visual accent. The car’s silhouette remains largely unchanged, preserving the two-tier window line, traditional door handles, and black wheel arch cladding.Depending on the trim, 17- or 19-inch alloy wheels are offered. The crossover’s dimensions are 4,744 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,684 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,791 mm.The layout is five-seater. The rear is more restrained in style. The LED taillight strip has a simplified graphic, the Volkswagen logo is also illuminated, and the exhaust system is fully hidden. The ePRO badge on the tailgate highlights the model’s place in the plug-in hybrid lineup.The interior largely mirrors the Tiguan L Pro’s design but has received several refinements. The cabin features a new central display, an updated two-spoke steering wheel, and, importantly, the return of physical control buttons to simplify interaction while driving. The powertrain consists of a 1.5-liter EA211 EVO II gasoline engine producing 95 kW and an electric motor rated at 145 kW. Power is supplied by a 22 kWh triple lithium battery developed by Sunwoda. According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the pure electric range reaches 117 kilometers.Overall, the Tiguan L ePRO looks like a logical move for Volkswagen in the Chinese market, combining a familiar format, contemporary design, and a substantial electric range for daily commutes.
