Jaguar Land Rover will debut a new all-electric Range Rover model this year. It will be the first vehicle to be built on the company’s new Electric Modular Architecture (EMA). The model will replace the current Range Rover Velar and feature a longer, lower body design for better aerodynamics and to extend range.
Should You Buy a 2025 Range Rover?
Described by JLR chief financial officer Richard Molyneux as a “unique” addition to the Range Rover lineup, the electric SUV is expected to look more like a station wagon than a typical SUV. Prototypes have already been spotted undergoing testing.
The EMA platform will support multiple future electric vehicles for JLR. Production of EMA-based models will take place at the company’s Halewood plant in northwest England where the Evoque and Discovery Sport are assembled. The facility has been retooled to accommodate the new architecture.
In addition to the new electric Range Rover, JLR plans to reintroduce the Freelander nameplate with a range of plug-in hybrid models. The first vehicle under the revived Freelander brand will be developed in partnership with Chery and produced at a joint-venture plant near Shanghai. It will be based on Chery’s T1X platform and initially launched in China before entering global markets.
JLR also confirmed that the long-delayed Range Rover Electric will arrive later this year. Built on the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) platform, the electric SUV will be equipped with a 117-kilowatt-hour battery offering a real-world range of over 480 kilometres. Its 800-volt architecture is designed to enable faster charging.
Jaguar Fires the Man Who Designed the Type 00 Concept
Finally, Jaguar, too, will see some action. Three EVs are planned for the near future. The first to be unveiled will be a high-performance GT sedan this summer as part of its relaunch strategy. The upcoming four-door EV will feature a three-motor powertrain producing more than 1,000 horsepower and offer up to 692 kilometres of range from a 120-kWh battery.
