Let’s compare these two flagships (yes, the Seville STS was considered Cadillac’s flagship car and had a higher starting price than any other Cadillac model).

The LS400 was modern, elegant, technologically advanced, offered a generous warranty, and boasted a very competitive price. Toyota put their heart and soul into making their full size luxury car as great as it could possibly be, giving a genuine wake up call to brands like Mercedes.

Meanwhile, GM just phoned it in completely for their flagship. Exterior styling of the Seville looked shockingly similar to a Grand Am, even though these two cars didn’t share anything in common mechanically. The interior was no better, with a steering wheel that looked straight out of a Chrysler K-Car and a gaudy early 80s looking digital dash. Driving dynamics were poor, and the drivetrain and transmission were not suitable for its 4.5L V8.

Cars like the 3rd-gen Seville really show how out of touch GM was. Even the Cimarron was more excusable than this alleged 5-Series competitor.
