GWM Wey teases the V9X new full-size plug-in hybrid flagship SUV in China. It will enter the market shortly with 400 km of EV range. The GWM Wey V9X will become the first car to stand on the GWM One modular architecture.
Wey is a high-end brand under Great Wall Motor (GWM), named after its chairman, Wei Jianjun (also known as Jack Wey). Wey-branded models are sold overseas with GWM Wey badges, as Great Wall Motor adheres to the “One GWM” strategy. Soon, the newest Wey’s flagship SUV will enter the domestic market.
GWM Wey V9X teased in China
On February 3, GWM shared official teaser images of the new flagship SUV called Wey V9X. In China, the number 9 is often used for flagship products as it represents longevity and eternity in the culture. It means the V9X will become the top-of-the-line crossover under the Wey umbrella. It will also become the first vehicle to stand on the GWM One (Guiyuan) modular architecture.

Previously, the GWM Wey V9X was seen in China during road tests. It is a large SUV with a body length of over 5.3 meters. The recent teasers revealed that the car adopts two thin LED running light strips with an illuminated Wey logo between them. The new GWM Wey flagship has traditional door handles, a LiDAR sensor on the roof, and a single taillight unit.
Some teaser images show the V9X with small blue elements lit up. In China, such lights indicate that the car is driving with the Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) function active. Previously, the GWM Wey 07 (Lanshan) became the brand’s first vehicle to adopt the VLA (Vision, Language, Action) model that boasted its assisted driving capabilities. It seems that the V9X will use the company’s latest ADAS tech.

Teaser images release hints that the Wey V9X will soon apply for the sales license in China. During this process, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveals the car’s core specs and publishes photos. There is a high chance the V9X will be listed in the MIIT catalog this month as the company started warming up the audience.
Previously, it was shared that GWM will commence mass production of the V9X in March 2026. It seems that the car launch could be scheduled for the Beijing Auto Show in late April 2026.
More about the GWM Wey V9X
It was previously shared that the Wey V9X is a six-seat SUV with a plug-in hybrid system. It adopts a 2-liter turbocharged petrol-powered engine paired with two e-motors. This large PHEV speeds up to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. It also boasts a pure electric range of 400 km. The V9X’s battery supports the 6C charging technology, allowing adding 200 km of range in five minutes.
The GWM One modular architecture’s core feature is its compatibility with five powertrain variants: ICE, HEV, PHEV, BEV, and FCEV. It means GWM can also introduce the pure electric or petrol-powered modifications of their flagship. The GWM One architecture also supports rear-wheel steering, air suspension, and other high-end technologies.
