Tesla’s sales in Sweden experienced their first year-over-year increase in twelve months.
However, in Norway, where the company set a nationwide record in 2025, registrations tumbled sharply in January to the worst result in 36 months.
Norway’s EV sales were expected to decline in the first month of the year, as the country removed incentives on the segment — after achieving 95% of all new vehicle sales being electric by the end of 2025.
Overall vehicle registrations plunged 76.3% to 2,218 units, with fully electric sales representing 2,084 of them — a 94% share — according to data published on Monday by the OFV.
Of these, Tesla accounted for only 83 vehicles — a 88% drop year over year and a 98.5% plunge from December.

These are Tesla‘s lowest monthly sales in Norway since January 2023, when only 21 vehicles were registered.
The drop is particularly notable given Tesla‘s strong 2025 performance in Norway.
The company set a full-year sales record with 34,285 vehicles sold and captured 19.1% of the market — surpassing Volkswagen’s previous record of 26,575 vehicles from 2016.
The Elon Musk-led company was Norway’s best-selling car brand last year, beating second-place Volkswagen by over 10,000 units.
In January, the German automaker led the market, albeit with only 444 vehicles registered (also a 76.8% decline year over year), followed by Toyota, Skoda, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, and, only then, Tesla.

The Volkswagen ID.3 was the best-selling model in Norway last month, with 299 units registered, while the Tesla Model Y ranked seventh with only 62 units.
Tesla refreshed its best-selling Model Y at the beginning of 2025. In October, it introduced a more affordable, Standard version.
The model is now priced from NOK 389,990 ($40,400).
The Model 3 Standard was also introduced in European markets late last year, reducing the entry price of the sedan to NOK 299,990 ($31,100).
Up until March 31, Tesla is offering 0% APR on its Model Y Premium Long Range, with a 2.74% effective interest rate, and a 1.99% APR on Model 3 variants.
Additionally, both Model 3 Premium and Performance trims and all variants of the Model Y are eligible for a ‘Tesla Bonus’ of NOK 50,000 ($5,200).
Sweden
In Sweden, where Tesla has been battling a union blockade for the past two years, registrations totaled 512 units in January — a 26.1% increase from the 405 registered a year before.
It is the first year-over-year increase in over twelve months. Between January and December 2025, Tesla sales plunged by 66.8% to 21,894 vehicles.
Registrations declined from 823 units in December, as auto sales are usually lower in the beginning of each year.

The Model Y, priced from SEK 499,900 ($56,100) since the introduction of the Standard trim, accounted for 499 units and placed third across all powertrains.
The company is offering a 0% APR on Model Y and Model 3 purchases up until March 31. A SEK 40,000 ($4,500) bonus is also available for eligible customers.
Volvo’s EX/XC40 (which includes both the fully electric and hybrid versions) was the best-selling model in Sweden last month, with over 800 units recorded, with the XC60 following.
Volkswagen and Volvo led sales in the country, each with over 2,400 vehicles registered.
Vehicle sales in Sweden fell 18.3% in the first month of the year. Of the total 16,041 cars registered last month, 6,710 were fully electric — representing 41% of the market.
Denmark
Overall vehicle sales in Denmark reached 12,803 units in January, a 18.2% increase from a year ago.
Of these, 10,618 were fully electric cars, representing a 82.9% share of the market. One in each four cars purchased in Denmark last month was a battery-electric model (BEV).
According to Mobility Denmark, this share “is partly due to the planned tax increases on electric cars, which were to take effect at the turn of the year, being postponed as part of the 2026 Finance Act.”
As first reported by Reuters, Tesla sold 458 vehicles in Denmark last month, a 3% increase year-over-year.
Data by Mobility Denmark shows that 454 of these were Model Y SUVs, which ranked as the third best-selling model in the country, after the Toyota bZ4X and the Skoda Elroq.
The vehicle registration platform EU-EVs data indicates that the remaining four vehicles were two Model 3s and one unit of the Model S and Model X each.
