Two pals took a brand-new Tesla Model 3 Premium out onto snow-covered roads to see how Full Self-Driving (FSD) held up.
We’ve seen plenty of Tesla owners making the most out of FSD recently, including one man who embarked upon a coast-to-coast trip across the US, and another who uses the tech to make food deliveries a doddle.
But how does the automated driving system handle extreme weather conditions?
The guys from Out of Spec Reviews decided to find out, and they were impressed with what they learned.

Kyle and Logan from the channel recently bought a Tesla Model 3 Premium, which comes equipped with FSD v14.2.2.3.
And to give the test an extra bit of an edge, they kept the standard all-season tires on, making it the ‘worst case scenario’.

The clip starts with the Tesla Model 3 YouTuber explaining that the temperature was so low in North Carolina where they did the testing, that the EV had completely frozen and had to be defrosted for about an hour before it was ready for the road.
They decided to start by taking the EV out onto an ice-covered track to test FSD on everything from lane perception to braking.
The Tesla was able to gently ease its way out onto the track without any bother, despite the road being solidly iced over.
The pair were impressed by the car’s ability to correct oversteering and understeering, without the driver having to touch the wheel.

Even when pushing the car to go a little faster, the Tesla was more than capable of tackling the icy track, with smooth steering and timely braking.
After putting in a top-notch performance on the track, the YouTubers took the Tesla out onto public roads.
And much like on the track, the Tesla handled the snow, ice, and slush-covered streets well.
It was able to successfully navigate exits and interactions, park itself in an icy parking lot, hit decent speeds on the highway, and even sailed through a pedestrian dummy test.

So, what did the duo think of the Full Self-Driving performance?
The duo was left seriously impressed by how the Full Self-Driving performed in the less-than-ideal conditions, and said that it actually worked better than they had expected.
Kyle even branded it as the best system on the market.
“There’s no better system on the market than this that I’ve ever experienced,” he said.
“And it just keeps getting better and better and better. And I can’t wait to do this again next winter.”
Both men also agreed that FSD handled low-grip better than ‘99 percent’ of human drivers.
High praise, indeed.
