TLDR; fixing up a 65’ Cadi for my bummed out daughter to drive at 16, where to find shocks and other parts.

Looking for some advice and feedback from the OG’s in the classic car world. Not my wheelhouse but always able to admit where I need help.

Been in the trades my whole life but have wrenched on more bikes (Harley’s) then cars. Im not afraid to learn as I go and I’ve never taken something apart I couldn’t figure out how to put back together.

My daughter is 12 years old, been having a tough time at school and we’ve been trying to find something new for her to get into. Like my fiancé and I, she likes more old school and punk stuff. We were talking about cars for when she turns 16 and she wants an old Cadi or impala. We Found this car and its overall a great start, figured spend the next few years working on it until she turns 16. Help her build some confidence, have something fun to do together, and learn some cool shit and have a nice ride for her all said and done. And yes, we have her in therapy, this is just a side quest.

Tranny was rebuilt, interior seats done, engine seems strong, a lot of electrical issues but I figure I can work through that, and a lot of body work to deal with lol. Nothing some blood sweat and YouTube can’t help with!

First issue I’d like to address is the suspension. I had a 67 Cadi 4 door and this suspension feels way off compared to that. It has cut springs or something cause this thing slams the ground at every pebble and has a Very waterbed feel.

I ordered some springs that are being made by Eaton Detroit and they were super helpful and said they can fabricate a 2” lowering spring so I’m guessing that will help get it up a bit. But I can’t find shocks. Do I use stock shocks even with a lower spring? Just ask around for a 65 deville coupe 2 door stock set up? Or do I need like a heavy duty upgraded shock? When I called submit they said they weren’t sure but I could guess an try some, they also asked what the lengths were needed for extension and compression, I had no idea what to say.

Any feedback on where to get parts like shocks, what’s sizes or what information I should look for would be a huge help. I’m assuming I’ll be reaching out a lot to all you much more skilled folks so I’d appreciate any feedback possible!
