The City of Robbinsdale has powered up its first public electric vehicle charging station at Lakeview Terrace Park.

The new electric vehicle charging station is now open at Lakeview Terrace Park in Robbinsdale.

“There are two ports on the charging station,” said City of Robbinsdale Sustainability Coordinator Kayla Kirtz. “It’s a level three, which means it’s a fast charging station, so you can plug in your electric vehicle and get up to a full charge in 30 minutes.”

Kirtz said the central location was perfect for helping as many people as possible power up their vehicles.

“That location is really central to the city. It’s also adjacent to a really busy thoroughfare, so there’s all sorts of traffic passing by the charging station all hours of the day,” Kirtz said. “It’s also in the parking lot of one of our busiest parks, so this summer, when the baseball diamonds are full and the soccer fields are playing, you’ll see a lot of use.”

The city’s goals go far beyond just one charging station, Kirtz said.

“We’re committed to providing resilient infrastructure to our residents, and that includes electric vehicle charging infrastructure. We want to promote the use and adoption of sustainable transportation, in order to do that we want to provide ways for charging those vehicles for our residents as well as for people who travel in and through Robbinsdale.
