Rear wheel bolts on some electric bikes have been recalled because they can break when tightened.

The Hyena manufactured bolts are installed on 19,890 model year 2026 Trek FX+ 1 and Electra Townie Go! electric bicycles, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

No injuries have been reported but the company has received seven reports of the rear wheel bolts breaking, causing the wheel to separate from the bicycle, which poses a fall hazard.

The bikes were sold for about $2,100 at Trek stores and Trek authorized retailers nationwide and online from April 2025 through October 2025.

The recall includes the bolts on 2026 Trek brand FX+ 1 Midstep, FX+ 1S Midstep, FX+ 1 Stepover and FX+ 1S Stepover; and Electra brand Townie Go! Step Thru and Townie Go! S Step Thru electric bicycles sold before October 28, 2025.

The bicycles come in various colors and sizes. The Trek bicycles have the word “TREK” printed on the down tube of the frame and “FX+” is printed on the top tube. The Electra bicycles have the word “townie” printed on the down tube, “electra” on the seat stay, and “go!” on the chain guard. The original rear wheel bolts connect the motor to the rear frame of the bicycles.

Owners should immediately stop using the bicycles with recalled bolts and contact an authorized Trek or Electra dealer to schedule a free repair at the dealer’s location. The original bolts are black; the replacement bolts are silver.

Trek will provide a $10 in-store credit to owners who participate in the recall. The credit is valid through Dec. 31, 2026.
