Recently, key parameters of FAW-Volkswagen’s upcoming new Magotan PHEV sedan were revealed by the Chinese MIIT, featuring a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system with a comprehensive system power output of 240 kW (321 hp).
For reference, in July 2007, the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture introduced the Magotan gasoline-powered sedan series as its first domestically produced B-segment vehicle in China. In 2025, the Magotan’s cumulative sales reached 202,300 units, ranking fifth among Volkswagen’s products. For comparison, the Volkswagen Passat sold 227,100 units and the Toyota Camry sold 208,700 units.
The Volkswagen Magotan PHEV is part of the automaker’s plan to launch more than 20 all-electric, plug-in hybrid, and range-extender vehicles in China in 2026 as an attempt to increase its market share in China’s core new energy vehicle segment.

The Volkswagen Magotan PHEV largely retains the design of the current Volkswagen Magotan B9 gasoline-powered sedan, but incorporates several PHEV-specific design elements. The front features new blue trim strips and a blue PHEV badge. From the side, the Magotan PHEV has a steeply sloping C-pillar and runs on either 225/55 R17 or 245/45 R18 tires.
At the rear, the lower right corner of the tailgate also has a PHEV badge, while the lower left corner displays the FAW-Volkswagen Chinese characters.
Dimensionally, the Volkswagen Magotan PHEV measures 4990/1854/1491 mm (l/w/h), with a wheelbase of 2872 mm. For comparison, the current Volkswagen Magotan B9 has dimensions of 4990/1854/1487 mm and a wheelbase of 2871 mm.

Other configurations include a standard panoramic sunroof, front and rear cameras, and decorative panels.
The plug-in hybrid system consists of a 1.5T engine with a maximum power output of 95 kW (127 hp) and an electric motor that outputs 145 kW (194 hp), paired with a 22 kWh battery pack, providing a pure electric range of 127 km (assuming under CLTC conditions) and a top speed of 180 km/h. The vehicle curb weight is 1,838 kg and the battery weight is 163.5 kg.
At this time, the battery chemistry and detailed range info have not been revealed at this time.
