Stellantis announced that its entire line of plug-in vehicles will be discontinued in the US market, which consists of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid.
The multinational automaker said the move is in response to changing consumer needs and regulatory frameworks.
“In response to changing customer demand, Stellantis will phase out plug-in hybrid (PHEV) programs in North America starting with the 2026 model year and focus on more competitive electrified solutions, including hybrid and extended-range vehicles,” the company said.
With this decision, the company will prioritize conventional hybrids such as the new Jeep Cherokee and other electrified options, such as the “resurrected” Hemi engine with eTorque technology and “extended range” models.
At one point, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe became the best-selling plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in the U.S. market, although its legacy was tarnished on several occasions by recalls due to fire risks.
One of the most recent cases was reported just last November, when Stellantis asked more than 300,000 owners of Wranglers and Grand Cherokees with 4xe powertrains not to plug in their vehicles until they had been checked by a technician.
However, company executives assured the US press that these malfunctions did not influence the decision to discontinue these models.
