The Chevy Bolt is BACK! $29k, NACS & Faster Charging!
When we were first looking for a replacement for my old ICE vehicle, the 1998 Rav 4, we did a video with the Chevy Bolt, and we were kind of in love with it. The Maki and the Chevy Bolt. Kind of the perfect marriage, perfect driveway. Today, we are here with the 2027 Chevy Bolt. So happy it’s back. We’re going to check it out, dive in for the very first time, show you a couple colorways, and do a full walk around. We have a little lineup of Chevy Bolts here and it’s just so exciting to see them in person finally. I’m Lev. I’m Patrick. We’re electric duo. That’s the Chevy Bolt. Let’s go. Let’s go. [Music] This video is sponsored by EV Vita, creators of mods and accessories for all EVs and exclusive resellers of best EV mod accessories with direct customer support. With EV Vita, it doesn’t just end when you get their products. They have lots of tutorials. They’re very quick to answer questions. We have their products in our Maki and our Equinox, and we’re really proud to have them as a sponsor. This is our first time seeing this vehicle, but they actually did a press drive. They were on the Universal Studios lot and they got to drive these there. They were basically driving through the Good Place um through Back to the Future, like those locations. What else were they driving through? Uh with someone Housewives. Yeah, they were driving down My Wisteria Lane. If you watch any of those, then uh you will be as nerdily excited as I was to see that footage. I really wish that we could have done that drive. Well, and I and I have to say I think it’s really cool the people that got invited to that press drive were like Chevy Bolt owners that were also somewhat connected media wise. So, very cool to see them making that connection to old Chevy Bolt owners. Yeah, that was really cool to see. So, if you’re interested in that drive, there were lots of people who did writeups um with a good comparison of previous Bolt ownership. Obviously, the Bolt is a legendary vehicle. They were out before. We didn’t know if they would come back, but then they did, and they came back with a vengeance. We have the 2027 Bolt in RS or LT trim. This is Marina Blue that I’m standing in front of, and it’s basically the EUV body style. So, before we had the Bolt EV, which was more petite, and then we had the EUV, which is more of an SUV body style. if you’re interested in our video with the OG EUV. Um, yeah, we’ll link it up over there. We’ve been linking a lot of videos. So, I’m like, but we’ll link that video for you. Cannot wait to get behind the wheel of this. Have possession maybe do a test drive of this. I’m sure it’ll be a while. But for now, let’s take a look at this bolt in Marina blue. I I know they made some slight changes, but it’s like it just looks like the old Bolt to me, which is not a bad thing because I don’t know about you, I think the Bolt is chef’s kiss. So cute. Such a good body style. This thing is great turning radius, great range. We’ll give you all the stats and everything, but first, let’s just look at the aesthetics of this thing. This is um a Chevy vehicle. They have a really standout, recognizable design. Little bow tie on the front. It just it looks so good to me. It looks It looks approachable. It looks cute, but it looks like a car. Uh, and sort of because the Chevy Bolt EV kind of looked a little weird, you know what I mean? It looked a teensy bit weird. The EUV looked a bit more normal, but this uh it looks like kind of a a normal car in a way. Um, and really the biggest change, it’s hidden by this. It’s Yeah, it’s hidden, but we have a a knack port on the 2027 Bolt. So, that’s really exciting. charges faster, too. So, it’s not limited to the previous what was it? 65 kilowatt. 50 kilowatt. 55. 55 kilowatt. It was 50 and or 55, I believe. Um, if you don’t know, we actually tried to get our hands on a bolt to um to have. We tried to buy one twice and um we didn’t get the pricing we wanted. So, why don’t we take a peek on the inside? This thing just looks so good. Look how spacious it is. Look at the textiles. Um the screen everything looks upgraded and premium really even though this is a budget vehicle for the price and it starts at 28,9.95 I believe there uh goes up to 32,000 for the next trim level. Of course there’s probably some options that you can get. So the the caveat is like we you know we’re not saying this is oh my gosh this is so nice it’s like a Mercedes but for a 28,000 $30,000 EV with 255 miles of range maxport decent charging this is really really good and I’m going to show the back seat a little bit here. I’m not even going to open the door. Decent leg room in the back. We have like charging ports. Um, one of the things that Liv does not like is like when the center console area is really big, especially on the EV because like doesn’t need to be. That one is gives you like nice storage but won’t get in your way. And I think we need to hop in cuz we have the opportunity to. So, while this door is open, I’m just going to jump in and show you guys. Now, if you don’t know anything about me, I am an adaptive driver. I have a prosthetic. I drive with my left leg crossed over. So, that is why I don’t like a big center console cuz that can be a challenge. We have a a non-powered on car, so I can’t really adjust the seating. Uh, but there’s tons of room. If you can see, my leg is all all the way over. It’s no problem because there’s tons of room here. And oh gosh, it feels so good. And it’s it’s interesting because there’s a lot of times there’s like small cars and even if you’re like average size, you’re like the this is just like really tight and compact. i4, for example, BMW i4. It’s a lot bigger than this, but it feels really compact and tight inside. This is really small, but feels fairly open inside. Yeah. And I invite you to hop around the other side, Patrick. Okie dokie. I’m not going to hop in. I’m going to film from out here so I can get a good angle. You can see my shadow, though. So, like, hey. Hey. Yeah. We’ll just give you guys a little look see at this. The vehicle is not powered right now, unfortunately. Probably because I would drive away with it. Um, but we have sort of this on button over there. Does that actually turn the vehicle on? No. No. That just turns on the screen. So, obviously we sit down, press our foot on the brake, and it must start. Um, we have a lot of space here, but still a lot of storage. Looks like a wireless charging pad. And then another pad that I’m sure isn’t wireless for the other person. I think it’s just one wireless charging area that I said isn’t wireless. Sorry. I should stick my head in so I can hear. I know. It’s so hard to hear in these places. It’s really interesting how tilted this screen is. I would love to see it on, especially in all honesty with glare. I do wonder how that is um when you have sunlight in. Now, uh notice that everything’s very smooth on the dash. Something that we experience in our Equinox EV is there’s this weird line dash which kind of creates a blinding glare when you’re driving. I think this will be much nicer because it’s really really smooth um and black. So hopefully there won’t be any glare there. Um, but just take a look at all the textiles in here and the textures. It’s just like Patrick’s mic just died. So you’re just gonna get me and I’m just going to give you a quick quick tour of the interior. Things that I love. You’ll have to let us know how you feel about these things. But love manual vent controls. I’m driving. I just want some air on my face. I love being able to adjust that without looking on either side. We got vents on either side. I kind of love having high vents because some vehicles they are lower and I feel like you can’t get a full face of air. I personally love having the air in my face oftentimes when I’m driving. I just like I like air flow on my face. But I love how many little storage nooks they have here with different textures. We have the dark uh material here. And then we have this lighter sort of like uh greeny gray. Uh and Patrick’s showing you the inside of the glove box. There’s a manual glove box. Perhaps that’s like a lowbudget thing now, but I love having that. Now, there’s a lot of space here in this little um cubby. Interestingly, I’m like, wait, those are not cup holders, are they? Patrick can’t even answer because he can’t talk. But um that’s an interesting situation. Um we have a little space in here. I like how easy that is to open. But ultimately, I want to drive this thing. I cannot wait to drive this thing. Uh let’s show you another color. All right, Patrick’s mic is back on. So he is here with us again. I can talk. He can talk. And here we have a habanero RS bolt. And I always love the RS stuff. Habanero orange. Habanero orange RS bolt. So that’s RS trim. And you can always tell because it’s more black. So we have the uh black bow tie on the front. I always like that. Um a kind of a a little bit of a black grill on the bottom. The Equinox EV when they have the RS trim, it’s like a lot of black. So and the black wheels. And the black wheels. But I like these touches. If you’re not a great parker parker, if you don’t do well parking your car, be careful because those will uh get a lot of road rash. Yeah, that’s no good. But I love that we get to see these two colorways of the new Chevy Bolt EV. Um why don’t we flippity flip and finish up, Patrick? Yeah, I’m going to do that. We’ll flippity flip just like live just so you can see this really quickly. Oh, by the way. Okay, so we have uh Marina blue. We have habanera orange. Um there’s also behind us a blazer in galaxy gray. Should we Yeah, let’s go ahead. This is going to be bonus coverage. Bonus. Uh just sort of because I think that the Bolt would look so good in this color. So So nice to see how many EVs Chevy has here in their booth. Um but don’t you think the Bolt would look good in Galaxy gray? I think that would be amazing. Don’t you guys? I think it looks really good. So, yeah. Imagine the bolt in that color. So, now let’s just go ahead. We’re going to wrap this up. We’re going to go, uh, walk slowly and get back in front of the bolts. But, uh, and we’ll go down there to the other one so that we can see what all colors. I’m so sorry, but uh, can we flippity flip again? Yeah. Sorry, guys. Hopefully, you’re not nauseious. Look at the bolt uh in the black on the RS trim and then the black rear with the black bow tie. I honestly really really really like the RS trim on the Bolt. Like I just think it like it does a lot of good things. It looks really good. Let’s go look at this one cuz I think that one has the black bow tie, doesn’t it? Is it as black? But it does have the black bolt here. Oh, it does. That looks really good. Wouldn’t it be cool if we could get all of our license plates the body color of our car? Yeah, that would be really cool. Uh and we’ll go look at the colors here real quick. So you have like this blue. It has sterling gray and then uh a green atomic yellow. Oo, look at relic green. I think I like the blue the best. But I kind of like relic green. Shall we flippity flip and finish up here? Yeah. So let’s go ahead and finish up. Now we’ll finish up. We got the Bolt behind us. Um and I was just looking at some of the stats real quick. It’s like two and a half times faster charging. 10 to 80% in 26 minutes with 150 kW charging. not this, you know, quickest, super fastest of, you know, all of the new EVs that are out there. We’re actually in an ionic 9 right now. And it was charging at like 235 kilowatts at over 50% state of charge. So, it’s not like that, but this is, you know, again, a lot cheaper because the Ionic 9 is a lot bigger and it’s also like almost $80,000. So, great value. Really excited to see these coming back. the the federal tax credit has gone away, but we are starting to see we also filmed a a video with the Nissan Leaf that’s a little bit more expensive, like 32 to 38,000 or 30 to 38,000. Um, but this is really great. Yeah, it’s it’s really good to see more affordable vehicles. Obviously, the Bolt is coming in 2027 and why don’t we step more in front of the Bolt so you can see it more. Um, now something we didn’t mention, by the way, this just like our Equinox EV has Google built in. Uh, if you’re interested in seeing what it’s like to live with that, we have a couple videos with our Equinox TV, things we love, things we hate. Spoiler alert, I kind of love the Google builtin, especially as uh Android phone users, we use a lot of Google stuff, but you probably do, too, if you use Google Maps. So, it’s kind of a a lovely seamless experience. And I’m I’m psyched that it’s Google builtin, but but no car, no CarPlay and uh no Android Auto, although it is Android Automotive builtin. So, and and I’ll say real quick because like a lot of people are like, “You guys probably love that it’s Android Automotive and you don’t miss Android Auto.” Um, but we still do, you know, and and we This is one of the things that was in our video with the Equinox. The The problem is is like it doesn’t always recognize Well, you had to like switch user profiles and and because it’s the whatever trim, it’s like we drive off and I’m like crap, I’m in Liv’s profile, which means I can’t just switch. We’re used to having Android Auto like connect to our phone. So then it’s my phone, my phone rings, it rings through the system or her phone. So it’s like we have run into a lot of problems like that. Um I didn’t necessarily explain that well, did I? No, not necessarily. But um basically you want flexibility, right? So here, let’s trade. Um and I’m going to step forward so you guys get a little better view of the bolt right there. Look at that. Look how cute that is. do need to be looking at that as we finish up this video. Um, basically we want flexibility, right? So, it’s really nice like Ford, we have the Sync4A system, so we can use that, but we can also use Android Auto and we can also use CarPlay, which means like you can use whatever your phone is doing. Whatever you were doing on your phone. So, if I’m doing something on my phone, we can use that. If Patrick’s doing something on his phone, we can use that. So, that’s flexibility. And and there is stuff like if I’m playing a song on my phone and then I hop in the car, it connects and it can literally continue playing that. So there’s things like that that that work just better I think with Android Auto even on an Android Automotive Google built-in system. I messed that all up, but you get the point. We still like I think GM should offer that. Uh I saw a survey recently. It was like 30% of buyers are like they do not want to buy a car without CarPlay or Android Auto even if it has Google builtin. Understandable really. But um I do Are you too tall? Should I Am I cutting your head off? He hits when I cut his head off. I guess that’s understandable. Um the nice things about Google Builtin is that it this is a mature software that uh has been present in Polestar vehicles uh other vehicles as well. And it’s um seamless, it’s fast, it’s really good. What did you just get on your Equinox? Um, and on my Equinox TV. So, no. What did you get? So, you just got Oh, and I just got YouTube update, HBO, Amazon Prime Video, like all of those things. Um, because it is an Sorry. Um, because it Oh, you want to hold it so you don’t cut off my head? So, because it is an Android automotive system, I got all those updates. We can watch all of that stuff on the car. We didn’t have to rely on GM to provide that with their own built-in stuff. So, we have one provider who’s working on all that good stuff, which is which is cool. It’s really awesome. Yeah. Yeah. Although, and another caveat is supposedly things like Netflix and things like that are going to come to Android Auto cars as well. So, you wouldn’t necessarily like if they just offer that. They just did Android Auto. Yeah. Yeah. So, um you know what? By the way, uh the automakers are listening and the charging companies are listening too. They do look through social media. They look through YouTube comments. They check what people are saying. So feel free to comment your thoughts and feelings down below because they are listening. We promise we hear from them. Sometimes they’ll come over and say like, “So we’re saw someone said this and we’re going to address that.” Whatever. It’s like this is cool. They want to please us. They don’t want to displease us because we’re not going to use their products, right? and we want to use something that we love and that is easy and compatible with our lives. So ask for what you want. Uh use your voice on your social media. Comment on this video. Share all that stuff. But like honestly use your voice cuz they’re listening. And by the way, also like it it includes talking to your dealer. So like if you go look at a Chevy Bolt and go like, “Yeah, I’m really considering this but it doesn’t have Apple CarPlay.” Uh we know we’ve talked to automotive uh OEMs. They have their dealer meetings and they are like, “We get a lot of feedback from our dealers.” So, so tell your dealer like, “Hey, I would buy this car, but it doesn’t have CarPlay.” Yeah, absolutely. But also give it a try. You may you may like, you know, use it and go, I don’t need CarPlay anymore. So, at least give it a try. Don’t just be like, I I will not buy it because it doesn’t have CarPlay. Give them your feedback. But definitely keep this in your list. I think it is a really great option. We’re definitely going to consider it when her lease is up for a replacement if we can get one. Uh we the the we we keep saying like we tried to buy one and the reason that we didn’t is uh just at the time dealers were adding like $3,500 of accessories which was stupid accessories and we could not get them to take the accessories off. Then when we were trying to get a used Chevy Bolt, uh there was a great range of Chevy Bolts from 20 uh from 2017 to 2021 that got a brand new battery. So you had a vehicle that was priced like a used vehicle with a brand new battery. Absolutely amazing. But unfortunately, a lot of the used prices were um shot up because of that and also because of the tax and the dealers were factoring in the fact that you would get the $4,000 tax credit. So, and and we literally saw like we knew what the the price was, so it might have be $18,000. And then it was like, you can get a $4,000 used EV tax credit. They wanted to charge us 22,000. I was like, yeah, but we we don’t actually don’t qualify for that used EV tax credit. And they’re like, sucks to you. Yeah. They’re like, the next person walking in the door will, and they will be happy with a tax credit, and they’ll consider that price, which is great. So, a lot of people ended up with uh awesome Chevy Bolts with brand new batteries and they got the tax credit. That’s a great uh thing to happen at the higher price that the dealer got sort of but hopefully they got the tax credit. But yeah, then the dealer got it. The dealer really got it. Yeah, that’s that’s the bottom line is the dealer really took the tax credit. Yeah, that’s kind of a no-win. Yeah. Um so hopefully when this comes out, 2027, it comes out with great leasing deals. Uh um yeah, that’ll be really awesome. There’s also going to be the new Nissan Leaf for under 30,000. We’re going to have the Kia EV3. Yep. Um, which will be over 30,000, but similarly small. 2027 Ford EV truck is supposedly going to start at 30,000. We don’t know any specs or anything about that yet. We’ll have slate for 25,000. 2020 20ome,000. 20ome thousand. But honestly, like 2026, 2027 is actually looking pretty cool for the smaller, more affordable EV market. And uh I’m psyched about it. These these are the cars I’ve been waiting for. I kind of want them all. That’s not affordable. Uh if you want to follow along as we discover more of these affordable EVs, that’s what we’re very much interested in. I love the 0 to 60 times. We have a Maky GT that does 0 to 60 in 3 and 1/2 seconds. But even more than that, we love these like better, lower, more inexpensive options. I won’t say cheap because $30,000 is still a lot. But we want to explore those and show how they work in day-to-day life. So if you want that, make sure you, you know, subscribe to our videos, um, subscribe to our channel, follow us on threads, and all of those other things cuz we, we post about all of this news. Um, thank you to our Patreon members whose names are down below. We have the Unbridled, the Whisper, and the Engage. And I did that in the wrong order. Unbridled, engage, and whisper members. We also have a YouTube membership for two bucks a month. people have been supporting us. Liv says we’re going to add other tiers to that. We are uh because we really want to do a shout out for our YouTube members, too. Um all of the people who support us get different kind of benefits uh like behind thescenes stuff. We’ve been filming that today. Really haphazard crazy behind the scenes. If that’s something you want to see, then do support us because it helps make this all possible. Um I’m using all my vacation days to come do the stuff and cover all these cool EVs, but it’s such a passion of ours. We love it. so much. And we love that you guys love it, too. This copetic relationship, this EV community that we’re all building helps fuel us and and helps us spend our vacation times doing this. But anyways, we should head out. Um, thank you so much for joining us for this video where we checked out the brand new 2027 Chevy Bolt. Uh, I want to say EV, but it’s just the Chevy Bolt. It should. That’s it. Chevy Bolt. I’m so excited about this. Do let us know your thoughts down below. Let us know your hopes and dreams for this product. And on that note, just remember that whatever you drive, whether it’s a Chevy Bolt uh or a Chevy Equinox EV or a Chevy Blazer or a Silverado or something absolutely completely different like a Mustang Maki, whatever it is, enjoy the ride. Bye.
The Bolt is back and better than ever before! It has faster charging, a NACS port, and some sweet upgrades without compromising the style and size that we know and love. Plus, it’s still a budget-friendly EV with a price tag starting under $30,000.
In this video, we take a first look, check out the exterior styling updates, take a look at Marina Blue Metallic and Habanero Orange, and hop inside to feel the full vibe. If it’s anything like the OG Bolt on the road, we’re going to LOVE it!
