CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A Virginia State Trooper and several Good Samaritans helped pull a man from a burning vehicle Friday morning after a crash along I-95, according to police.

According to the Virginia State Police, Sgt. S. Page was driving northbound near the 111-mile marker when he spotted a 2024 Tesla Model Y off the side of the roadway.

As he stopped to check on the driver, the Tesla caught fire. Police said the vehicle’s doors were locked and would not open.

VSP reports that Sgt. Page then broke the window, cut through the airbag and, with the assistance of bystanders, pulled the driver from the burning car.

He then checked the vehicle to ensure no one else was inside and confirmed the man, later identified as 34-year-old Foday Kanu of Maryland, was the sole occupant.

Police say Kanu sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

State Police said the crash occurred around 7:00 a.m., when the Tesla went off the right side of I-95 northbound and struck a tree.
