DON’T HATE IT! 2026 Nissan Rogue PHEV Review

I’m Yur. I’m Jacob. We’re going for a drive. The first ever 2026 Nissan Rogue plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, but it’s actually a 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander dressed up as a Rogue. No launch control. Power mode. Kind of all right. Pretty good. Horsepower and torque. the same as the Outlander with 248 horsepower and 332 pound- feet of torque from a 2.4 liter four-cylinder plug-in hybrid. And all of this is okay because the Mitsubishi Outlander is built off the Nissan Rogue uh frame. Yeah, the platform. And then this is just a rebadged version of that. And next year for 2026, Mitsubishi is making changes to the Outlander plug-in hybrid. Yeah. So, they got a bunch of new updates that people really wanted. But unfortunately, Nissan is not getting those updates. I’m sure part of their whole agreement on doing this whole rebadging thing. And as we drive next to the Mitsubishi Canada head office, we can see they have their Outlanders. And if we compare both next to each other, wait, even in the same color, too. This is pretty much a night package on the Outlander, except for on the Rogue. Yes. In Canada, called the Noir package. It even has the same wheels. But one really big differentiator obviously between the two is the front ends. Because Mitsubishi is all chrome, Nissan decided to black things out and kind of get rid of these like little ticks at the bottom and make those color match and black out all of the headlights. And I think it makes all the difference. Yeah, I mean it definitely looks a little cooler, I guess. Is it cooler because we haven’t seen anything look like this and this is new and refreshing or like in five years are you gonna be like, “Oh yeah, this one actually looks better than the other.” I think this definitely looks better. It’s definitely less old person and they tried to but we kind of like old people stuff certain things, but this one does look better. And then they tried to make the Votion grill by adding the lines there on the grill as well. They kind of did an okay job, but like the Mitsubishi one also has lines going across. I still think this does look better. So at least they did that. I don’t hate the chrome on the Mitsubishi. And then if you go to the back end, it says uh it’s got black all the way across. It says Nissan. And I think the tail lights look exactly the same to me. And then at the bottom, it’s black instead of any uh silver. Yeah, that’s pretty much where the comparisons end. I I mean, I feel like that’s fair. Yeah, that’s what you got to do. That’s It was the fastest that they can get a plug-in hybrid to market with a Nissan badge on. I think they’re coming out with a new Rogue anyway, so maybe in the future that’ll all change. Yeah. Uh I mean, I don’t hate it. I think it looks all right. It doesn’t It still looks like a Mitsubishi. Yeah, but it’s a good attempt. And uh the wheel part is like Yeah, they should have at least done a different wheel. Although Nissan wheels traditionally, I don’t think a lot of them look very good. So, I’m kind of okay with these being the Mitsubishi wheels. And what would be the Continental recommended tire for winter because it’s winter now. That would be the Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus, which is an allseason tire. Excellent in all conditions. I got Viking Contact 8s ordered for my brand new car. I got the secure contact AW all weather tires for my dad’s Subaru because he doesn’t believe in winter tires. So, I’m stoked to put those on everyone. The best Christmas gift for your children or for your parents. A brand new set of contacts. Winter tires. Yeah. So, badge engineering. Pop the hood. Do we have Mitsubishi logos? Oh, do we? We barely have Mitsubishi logo. The only logo I could find something at the back that was metal wrote Mitsubishi sticker on it and the insulation on the inside of the hood said Mitsubishi. Besides that, the cover says Nissan. Yeah. Bolted down. Wow. Bolted down. Probably because underneath it’s all Mitsubishi badges, which is fine. More importantly, is there a dipstick? More importantly, what color is the dipstick? Ooh, I’m going to guess. Make your best guess. It’s usually yellow or orange. I’m going with yellow. Wrong. Damn. Red. No, that would be transmission usually. Black. Nope. Wow. This I’m out of like normal car colors at this point. Gray. Weird. And what would be the Total Energies recommended oil for your Mitsubishi motortoed Nissan? That would be the Total Energies Quartz Ino XC50W20. Always follow your manufacturer recommended guidelines. And then is this more of a car motor or is this more of a generator with electric motors attached? How does it work? Okay. So, the engine itself, the 2.4 L engine, four-cylinder, never really powers the wheels. It kind of just goes, it acts as a generator basically, like you said. So, it’s got a two motor all-wheel drive uh electric system. And it’s got a 20 kWh battery, which is a decent size, although you only get 61 km of range out of it. Full plug-in hybrid. 38 miles, I think, something like that. Um, obviously if you combine it, you drive endlessly and just fill it up at the gas station. But I I really like the feel of electric cars for putting around town. Yeah, this feels like an electric car to drive. There’s no like transmission in the in the sense of it. It’s you’re just powered by the electricity at all times. It’s like a range range extender. Yeah, basically. And I and I and I like it. And it feels good in power mode. Yeah. You get a little more power. It’s not slow. If I put it to uh eco mode. Yeah. 4 much less power. Yeah. And then we do have a uh we can put our shifter into B for regening. And then I can also use my left paddle to B5. Then I have an EEP which stops even more than B5. Is it? Oh, but not one pedal driving which is fine. And the brake pedal doesn’t feel weird. The gas pedal doesn’t feel weird. What if we put this into Oh, so EV will change auto EV save charge. And then uh the only I don’t know maybe not the only bad part, but like one bad part about this car is when you’re doing anything electric motor-wise or charging or the generator’s going, you get a squeal out of there. It’s actually infuriating. From outside, it’s pretty annoying. From inside, you can kind of hear it. I definitely hear it inside. Let’s listen to it somewhere. It’s like eh it’s like an electricity sound. Hopefully the 26 Outlander Pav has that engineered out. I don’t know if it was a complaining point, but I do know that like when I hear a plug-in hybrid Mitsubishi, they got a weird noise that like no one else is really doing. Like remember that that uh Jeep plug-in hybrid that had like a weird noise like every time you turn the steering wheel or something? I don’t I don’t remember, but I’m sure there was something like that. Yeah. Yeah. This has a weird sound. Yeah. Dealbreaker for some, but I I think I would take this over a Honda CRV hum and a Rav 4 Hum. It’s quieter, but I feel like this is like it’s more annoying hum, but not but like But it’s a necessary mechanical hum. Yes. Not a decorative. Yes. Like creative hum. Correct. It’s like a real motor hum. All right. So, uh, let’s switch drivers. I’ll hop in the middle row or the cheetah third row. Whatever you want. You know, the interior, look at it. It’s pretty much exactly Mitsubishi as far as I can tell. Yep. Let’s switch it up. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. This has the big uh the big dumb paddle headrest. Oh, yeah. Yes, it does. Friaking go. Star Wars. Minimal leg room, but it would work in an emergency and if you had a dog. Yeah, I found the second row also fairly tight, too, because this is like a cheater three row. You actually have cup holders back here, so it was meant to be for people. And there are uh hooks for the rear tethers on all three of those. And definitely not for the third row. So dogs, it’s just Yeah, dogs and like uh 12-year-olds, I guess. I don’t know. Small 12-year-olds, not your older elderly parents. You don’t want to squeeze them back there. Oh god, no. Unless they never bought you winter tires for Christmas, in which case, go ahead. aka this quilt. Whoa, whoa, don’t step on the quilting, bro. It’s pre-production. It’s going to be scrapped anyways. This is a pre-production unit. Uh, quilting reminds me exactly of Mitsubishi and the silver carbon fiber here. Also, Mitsubishi. That is cool. Uh, we also do have like carbon fiberesque on the uh door panels as well where the window switches. She loves that. In the uh what’s the small one that they made that they stopped selling? Uh, Eclipse Cross. No, it’s the small one. Um, remember everyone in Quebec? No, like the gas one. Mirage. Mirage. That one. I mean, the I remember the last year had like carbon fiber on the inside. Really? Like like plastic carbon fiber. They tried to make it look sick. Yeah, of course. You know what? I’m going to not break boost it cuz that’s what you did. Just power. That’s better. It’s It’s good. Also, all the um drive modes look awesome in the gauge. This is quick, man. Like this. Yeah. Yeah. This is not slow. That felt a little sketchy at my side. I was like, “This is this is this is not slow.” Okay. Uh yeah. And if you notice all of our filming, we usually film with our iPhones for the outside shots cuz they’re so good. Uh I got Jesus lighting, which meant uh we had the light coming from the sun and then it was reflecting off a building. So we got two points. So it looks super cool. And uh thanks to DVO and SanDisk, we got this new iPhone creator SSD that is Mag Safe and clicks on the back and you can plug that in. So you can record right to there and dump our footage from there. And we got these thumb drives that are one terabyte micro. These are two terabyte. That’s one terabyte USBC so that you can transfer footage a lot easier than uh you know cuz iPhones can be tricky with transferring footage. Yes. Especially to a computer. It’s a pain in the because you got to use iTunes and all that stuff. Now I can use this for transferring my family photos off easier. There you go. Yeah. Yeah. Shout out DV Shop and Sandis. Thank you guys. So yeah, more on this driving experience. It’s actually quite nice and pleasant. It’s really quiet in here and it’s not crashy over pavement. The suspension is actually really good. This is a pretty well sorted vehicle. I’m not really surprised because of how many Outlanders I actually see on the road. And we did joke way back when when it was like the bestselling plug-in hybrid, whatever all their billboards would say it. And I can kind of see why. Like if you’re looking at like what you get per dollar, the Outlander was really good. So this should be kind of exactly the same and Canada only gets one top trim. I think it’s called the Platinum. But in the States, you get two trims, bro. Life should be like that. Life should be one trim with everything. But I think the Outlander will get like more than that trim. More than two trims in the States. Yes. Yeah. I Well, yeah. I think it should just be like one top trim or one bottom trim, you know? But I guess I get upsell upselling like look at the Grand Wagon Ear, right? Exactly. 30,000 different trims. Yeah, you have to upsell. There’s There’s no other way to make it. Okay, so drive modes. I find this to be kind of hilarious. So, the graphics themselves are very impressive. Like, super high-res. They switch really, really quickly. Really awesome. The one that I find hilarious is Tarmac because that is 100% a Mitsubishi thing. Nissan would never have a tarmac mode. Hey man, bad badge engineering. They’re doing their best to hide as many Mitsubishi references as possible, I think. Yes. Yes. Even though this infotainment and gauge cluster is kind of Nissan. Well, it’s 100% Nissan. Yeah. But just reskin back. Yeah. Yeah. Funny. I wonder if they reskinned back from Mitsubishi or did they take the original save file from when it was a Nissan? Yeah. Yeah. Copy pasted that over. I don’t know. And this does have wired and wireless CarPlay. So, that is nice to see as well. Yeah. And uh I guess with like all the rebadging and skinning, it kind of just comes down to like more options where you want to get your Outlander from. Do you want to get it from a Nissan dealership or from a Mitsubishi dealership? Yes. Did you previously own a Evo Lancer or did you previously own a 240SX or uh 350Z and now you have a family? Yeah. Yeah. I don’t know. I mean, relationships at dealerships is important. I just bought my first brand new car and uh I don’t know if I like the dealership that I did. Exactly. But I did learn a lot and like would I rather go there than start fresh somewhere else? Like I don’t really know. I’m still trying to figure that out. I know one guy loves Audi’s, doesn’t want to get anything else just because the treatment at the Audi dealership is so perfect. I can fully understand that. And if you’re looking for your car and a dealership, tsp.trcar.com. Lots of options out there. Discounted price offers. Now, I do want to bring up a potential negative from the Outlander. So, I can’t definitively say it will affect this, but like come on. Uh, apparently there were some problems with Outlanders with the battery, the temperature of the battery because it’s the regular big battery that actually starts the car in the winter and all the time. So, it’s not the 12vt that starts it. So, people were not able to start their cars in the winter when it got too cold because there’s like a safety mechanism built into the battery that if the temperature is too low, it it won’t let you kick on the battery which lets you kick on the engine. So hopefully that’s not a thing with this, but I don’t know because this is a brand new product. Yeah, but it is funny to have a drive battery temperature display in the gauge cluster for perhaps that scenario. Now we are dead center while driving. Hold on. Let me let me smack my uh my SSD on the back of my phone with Mag Safe and record that. Nice nice solid middle drive battery temperature. So, I don’t know what it would be tomorrow morning if you could start this vehicle again, but that is potentially a thing because it was with the Mitsubishi. But one very nice thing are these seats in this interior because we have nice quilting just like you would on the Mitsubishi. Very Mitsubishi quilting. It looks really nice though. The seats are very, very comfortable. Very comfortable. Like no complaints about that. Have lumbar. Uh I actually do have forward and back lumbar on this side as well. Oh, nice. Both. Okay. And presets. Another unfortunate negative is this one. We cannot find massage seats, but the Mitsubishi is offered with massage seats. So, there’s that. Hey, moon roof’s good. Yeah, baby shades built in. Yes, that is really nice. Uh, we do have normal cup holders that seem to fit, but like you like to say, zoo your wrist. These are ultimate zooing cuz they’re like way down here. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, and USBA and USBC connectivity for your phone, which is good to have an option of both cuz not everyone’s ready to buy new cables because gas station cables sometimes don’t cut it and then all of a sudden you’re buying six gas station cables instead of one iPhone cable for $40. Tell me about it. Sounds like the story of my life here. We also have gloss black down here, unfortunately. But otherw other than that, not much. Okay. Uh camera button. We have a lot of hard buttons by the way. Really good sound system. Bose. I think it’s pretty decent. Uh the camera button is old Nissan uh infotainment kind of camera system. Not nearly as nice as that new Nissan Armada. Before you move on from that, apparently the Mitsubishi has a really big upgrade on the sound system. I think it’s a Yamaha now. So we don’t get that here. We don’t get what here? The upgraded Yamaha system. Oh. Oh. For like the 20 from the 20 Oh, yeah. But I honestly I don’t even know what the changes are for the 26 Outlander. Big Until Until I’m scheduled to drive it, the car does not exist. All right. That’s why I don’t know anything about modern day Ferraris except for the 296 GTB that we drove. That was a fun one. Yeah, that’s the only Ferrari I know that exists. And the Roma. Let’s not talk about that one. FF. Yes. Or that F12. F12. F12. Yeah, that was the best Fry I’ve ever driven in my life. That was the sickest thing ever. I think I would take that over a Lambo. I would take that over a lot of cars that I don’t remember a better sounding car than that. One thing that I wish that Nissan updated because they updated the front end and you pointed out that the steering wheel kind of looks like the Mitsubishi front end because it has the chrome the the big chrome cheeks. Yes, they should have dechromemed the bottom half and just matched it to the That’s That’s the last Yeah. silly fun thing. And then uh I could not the key fob didn’t have a remote start and I tried to click the lock three times and I didn’t notice anything happened. I do really like remote start. It’s probably through an app or something, I would assume. I do not like app because this is a plug-in hybrid. Yeah, I don’t know. You just schedule it, I guess. Yeah, you can hear it coming to a stop electric. But it wasn’t annoying and it wasn’t like It was an annoying Honda CRV hum. It’s It’s that right there. You can hear more on the driver side than the passenger side. Yeah, it’s only at certain speeds, usually lower speeds, but it is definitely there. And we got all hard button climate, which is awesome. Yes, heated seats only, no cooled. Uh, we do have a heated steering wheel as well, so that is nice. So, I feel like that’s pretty much everything. Are you mad at anything about this car? No. Does it kind of make sense? Makes perfect sense. Are you such a big fan of the Rogue that you wanted them to build a uh dedicated proper plug-in hybrid Rogue? No. Don’t really care, right? Also, this is available as a sevenseater, whereas a regular Rogue isn’t. So, there’s also that kind of bonus as well. All right, with all that out of the way, 2026 Rogue Pab, let’s get to the price. We don’t have one yet, unfortunately, and we probably won’t by the time this video is published. However, the Mitsubishi, top trim Mitsubishi is about 60 grand Canadian. So, this is probably going to be about 60 grand Canad pre-update. Yes, I believe so. All right. So, uh that’s what we’re going to assume it is. Thanks for watching. Thanks for subscribing. And let us know what you like more. And should they do these paint upgrades to the 26 Outlander? It’s almost like what they were doing back in ’90s GM, right? Yeah. Yeah. Those are the good old days. The good old days. The good old days. Cavalere versus Sunfire. Yeah. Oldsmobile Silhouette versus Cutless Silhouette the minivan or like the uh Oh, yeah. The Jimmy. So, somebody somebody let us know in the comments. Cutless Sierra and what was the other one? I don’t know. I’m Yuri. I’m Jacob. And we just went for a drive. Watch this other video. Maybe it’s a Mitubishi.

Jakub and Yuri review the 2026 Nissan Rogue PHEV on The Straight Pipes. The Rogue PHEV is putting down 248 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque from a 2.4L 4cyl plug in hybrid. Would you take it over the Mitsubishi Outlander?
