Perodua QV-E First Look: Priced at only RM80k but battery not included?
You know where this is? This is the Sang International Circuit. But no, today I’m not racing my BYD dolphin. But instead, we are going to have our first look at the brand new EV from Produ now officially called Produve. So come and join me have a closer look at Proda’s latest Sprite. Enjoy. Come, let’s go. Code name P01A, the Proda QVE has been in development since August 2023 involving over 260,000 man hours of R&D and a total cost of 800 million ringit. The new EV was built using an all new platform that Produ Austrian automotive company Magnash Style. Despite that, the Rawang giant assures that the IP of the platform as well as all other IPs related to the QVE, including the design still belong to Proa. Interesting, right? But for now, let’s focus on the QVE. Starting with its battery specifications, the Proa QV only has one variant which is powered by a 52.5 kWh LFP battery from CL. Produ claimed that the QVE can deliver an EDC rated range of 445 kilometer. The official WLTP rated range figure was not yet ready during the pre-launch briefing, but we are looking at around 378 km based on our estimate. So, real world range of approximately 350 km seems quite fair. In terms of charging, the QVE has a rather model setup with 60 kW DC charging and 6.6 kW AC charging. And yes, you can use QVE to power up external appliances through the 3.3 kW V2L feature. How about performance? Aha. The QV has a front-wheel drive setup and features a 150 kW electric motor, allowing the new EV to hit 0 to 100 in 7.5 seconds with a top speed of 165 km an hour. With this price tag, uh, more on that later. You are looking at the most affordable 200 horsepower brand new car of any kind in the market. So, will QVE replace my V as the new king of the road? H let’s move on to the other parts of the new EV. Still remember the half cut prototype from Malaysia auto show earlier this year. Well, the finalized design is not far off from that one. Prod wants it first EV to look sporty, modern, and bold. Hence, that is why they have chose sportback design for the QVE alongside plenty of other design elements such as the end to- end daytime running lights and rear light bar, flush front door handle, quarter handle for the rear door, 18in arrow alloy wheels. And check this out. You have to press the Proa logo to open the boot lid. Matcha Mercedes. but still have to lift up the lid manually because the EV does not come with powerable feature. In terms of dimensions, Proda QVE is actually shorter than the BYD dolphin in terms of length and height. Surprising, right? The Proda’s offering also has a shorter wheelbase, but it still has a slightly wider body and a higher ground clearance. The QVE is also a lighter car, but just by around 58 kg. As for the boot space capacity, Proda did not reveal the official figure during the pre-launch briefing, but it appears to be larger than a MV, maybe slightly over 300 liter. Well, check out our QVE articles for the updated information. And it also seems like Produo has fully utilized the space inside QV’s moto bay. Hence, the EV does not come with a frunk. Okay, now it is time to check out the interior. If you ask me, the QV’s interior is quite pro. It is predominantly black with some gray silver highlight. Quite straightforward. No overthe-top elements, although it does have good tomium ambient lights. Yes, Proda’s signature hooks are still there. Material wise, it is predominantly plastic with some soft touch finish here and there like the dashboard and headliner while the seats are a mix of leatherrett and fabric. There’s also a leather wrapped two-spoke steering wheel with flat bottom which is in line with the EV’s sporty image as well as for easy access in and out of the car. The QVE also features plenty of physical switches especially for climate controls. There’s also the rotary gear selector alongside toggle switch for the drive mode. By the way, in case you miss it the first time around, no, there are no panoramic roof on QVE. As we are still inside the QVE, let me point you to two, no, three digital screens that are inside this EV. There’s the 10.25 in digital instrument cluster. Then there’s also the 10 2.5 in infotainment display. So, where’s the third one? Well, here it is. The digital rear view mirror. Being the most advanced Proa vehicle to date, naturally, the QVE supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This EV is also a connected vehicle as you can remotely monitor and control certain aspects of the QVE such as charging and climate control using the Bcle app. We also noticed that Maxis logo appeared on the screen during QV’s boot up sequence. H interesting. When it comes to safety, the QV is not lacking for sure. It comes standard with six airbags and a long list of ADAS features as shown on your screen. This EV also has surround view monitoring camera, tire pressure monitoring sensor and built-in driving video recorder. But the safety features are not something that are out of ordinary. The QV actually have two more additional safety features which are beyond what you may expect from a subund,000 ringgit vehicle regardless of the type. The first is called child presence detector which will only activate when the car is turned off and locked. Produ claimed that the QV CPD feature is capable of detecting movements within both rear passenger and footwell areas even if the child is under fabric coverings regardless of day or night. There’s also the built-in emergency SOS system. If you have a breakdown and require assistance from Produ Auto Assist, you can immediately connect to them by using the SOS button near the overhead lights. On the other hand, QV’s emergency SOS system will also be automatically activated when the airbags are deployed during an accident. During this particular scenario, the system would contact M99 instead. As mentioned earlier, the Proda QVE is only available in one variant. There are two colorways that you can choose. Ice blue and caviar gray. Okay, now the moment you have been waiting for. How about the pricing? By the time you watch this video, the finalized pricing of Proda QVE should already been revealed. So, check out our comment section for the updated details. But during the pre-launch briefing, we were told that the Proda QVE is priced at 80,000 ringgit, but you have to lease the battery separately for around 275 ringgit per month for 9 years. That being said, customers only need to pay just one single payment per month as the payment for the car installment and battery leasing will be divided by Proda and their financing partners behind the scene.
