Mahindra XEV 9S – All Details!
Hey guys, welcome to MotorOctane. How are you all today? I am very excited today because finally Mahindra has brought the XEV 9S to us. And today we are going to talk about everything in detail. So without wasting time, let’s straight away start with the front of the car. Overall, it looks a lot like the XEV 9E. The name is also similar, that is XEV 9E and XEV 9S. And if you look at its styling, let’s get into everything. Headlights, LEDs completely, daytime running lamps, if you go to see, they are connected. In this car, there is an ADAS level 2, which also has a radar. So it’s on the bottom. And here, you get a total of 6 parking sensors in this car. That means it gets auto park feature. So 1, 2 and 3rd one is right there on the side. And one thing I definitely want to tell you is that the frunk of this car, that is 150 litres, which is definitely the biggest in this category. And what am I seeing here? I mean, you know it. All car care products of MotorOctane have been given. And the one that I would appreciate, it should be in every car, is rat protect. Because the car, like this is an electric car, if a rat bites anything here, boss, everything will be closed. Now to avoid that problem, your warranty should not be void, you should get your insurance claim. You can only open it in your engine bay area and spray it. And that’s about it. It will last you for 2-3 months until it washes off. And you may have to do it a little early in the rainy season. If you go to see the overall side profile of this car, it is quite similar to a car you know and I know and I own. So yes, it looks quite similar to the XUV700 in that aspect. And that part is still going to continue here. So let’s get into each and every detail. Here you get your tyre sizes, 18 inches, so that you get better ride quality. Glass area, if you look at this and you look at the glass, it is actually tinted. That means heat won’t go inside it easily. So that was one complaint I had with the XUV700 that the glass area is too much. But too much light comes inside the cabin, this is answered right over there. Okay, ground clearance is pretty good also in this car. And here the flush door handles still continue as well. Okay, so now let’s move on to the back. Overall, the design elements of this car are not too different from the XUV700. Few things are different. First thing here, you get this black patch and different logo. And the XUV900S is given at the bottom of the car. Okay, lower part of the car is also glossy black. So they have used gloss all over the car. And of course, there are 6 parking sensors here as well. So 1, 2, 3. And you notice, this gloss finish is given across. Otherwise, the petrol-diesel cars have a matte finish. Now, the tailgate is manual. And if you go to see the boot space, there is not much space. It is okay. You can reduce the recline of the seat if you want that way. But these seats completely flat fold. And I am sure many people will show you while lying down. Let me tell you, when the seats are raised, there is more storage in the front than this. Alright, so we have come to the second row of this car. Let’s see the overall space here. Knee room, good enough. Headroom, okay-ish. And thigh support is also pretty much good. Now, the second row passengers have the ventilated seats feature. And you know what’s the best feature here? Seat slide. Because of which, there is more space in the third row. And if I sit a little further in the second row, I don’t have any problem. My knees are not touching. And overall, there will be more space in the third row. And I am not sure if this will come in the 7OO. Because the Inglot platform is different. The 7OO platform is completely different. So, we will just have to wait when that car comes in. Apart from that, here you get sunblind. Which was also missing on the 7OO. So, it has come here now. After that, the rear AC vents come here. And what you also get is a wireless charging pad. You don’t get Type-C charging port. You get a wireless charging pad. So, that’s what is there. Plus, if you also want 65W charging, then here you have two charging points for 65W charging individually. Now, this is the back seat that I like more. I am in love with this. Now, I am taking the second row seat a little further. And all I am going to do is, step out, fold the seat, and get into the third row. Okay. Now, this seat is like this. And here. Overall, my knee room has increased now. Because I have moved the seat a little ahead. But headroom is comparatively less. I don’t have a lot of headroom. All I need to do is, pull this at the back most, increase my headrest. And look here. Now, I am sitting. My head is touching here. My knees are also touching. And I am 6 feet tall. But the only struggle here is, I don’t have thigh support. There is no thigh support at the back. And you also get this fire extinguisher. Which is now a compulsion, I think, in all electric cars also. So, this thing is also given here. So, there is not a lot of space at the back. But it has become a little more comfortable comparatively. One more thing they should have given, which is not there in the third row, is that if I want to adjust the second row seat, I cannot do that. I have only one option. And which is just fold. Apart from that, I don’t have any other option here. Which is a miss out. I feel third row passengers can also slide the seat a little. Fantastic option. Alright. Now, if we look at the overall interior of this car, the first thing you are going to notice, is that there are three big screens here. And what is this big heads up display spot also, which is augmented reality. Okay. So, now let’s get into everything. If we look at the dashboard of this car, there are soft touch elements here. And this is soft on the green part. And the upper part is majorly hard. And the lower part is also hard. So, let’s start with the steering wheel. There is a glossy finish on the steering wheel. Now, there was a sticker on it. I removed it. But, otherwise, it won’t be there in a normal car. However, this glossy finish means, it will easily get scratched also. Quite easily. And there are audio controls on the left side. This is your regen control increase. Your single pedal driving. Of course, you have your single pedal driving minus. Lightning mode or the boost mode. And all the controls of ADAS are given here. By the way, the height and reach of the steering wheel can be adjusted. If you look at the instrument cluster, it is completely digital. And it is not very customizable. It has driving assist features. And then what you also get is navigation also. So, in navigation, you can see the whole maps, which is very nice. And it looks very classy in this. And next is analytics, which is quite basic stuff that the car has, which comes in EV cars generally. If you come here, if you look at this screen, its quality is quite good. It’s quite easy to use. And there is one thing, there are a lot of features in its menu, but it can be very confusing. Because so much technology and features have been given in it, that you will lose up understanding. You won’t even understand which feature is where, what works, how. I mean, you have good features, but they are very confusing. For example, there is ambient light. You have Vision X as your heads up display. And it has a Doms camera. Doms camera comes here. This camera, basically, you can use it for in-car meetings. It reads your eye level and adjusts the heads up display. And the best part is, on the third screen, you can watch videos without a hotspot. So, everything works without a hotspot. And in this, you can activate theater mode, where you can watch videos both together at the same time. Yes, you get such a feature that you can watch videos on both screens at the same time, in the family. Another change here is, you get a sunroof in this car, which opens. So, there is no light in this. But you get a sunroof that actually opens up. And yeah, you can use it if you like to use that. Alright, its seats are leatherette. And here, of course, there is ventilation. And the best part now is, this seat is electrically adjustable. Not just from here, which I’ll show you later on. And underneath there is storage for your wireless charging pad, a place to keep your phone, two type C charging ports, of course you get your gear lever, electronic parking brake, here you have a lot of shortcuts if you see, audio, you know, car, home, aircon, two cup holders, look at the car keys, lock, unlock, boot open, and a feature to go back and forth. And what you also get is a decent enough storage over here, and this glovebox, this armrest part is also cooled, but it also moves back and forth. There is also a lot of storage in the glovebox here, and this is double storage, plus if you see the DVR here, a connection point has been made available for the dash cam as well. Now if you look at the door, you get a good quality of materials here, you get a soft touch, specifically where you will keep your hand. And apart from that, the green part is hard, plus you get Harman Kardon speakers, you get 16 speakers, which is fantastic. And the electric adjustment of the co-driver seat is also available there. The adjustment I did here is more for the boss mode in the car. Now what is the size of the battery packs in this car, what is the size, what is the warranty, what is the charging speed, let me tell you each and everything here. Then there’s that 79 kWh battery, which gives about 500-550 kWh. However, Mahindra is also introducing a new battery pack, which is 70 kWh, and this should give you a range of approximately 450-500 kWh. More importantly, let me tell you about the battery chemistry. So this comes with LFP batteries, which are known for their reliability. And these are BYD blade cells, which are known for better reliability compared to, and longevity compared to the regular LFP batteries. So these battery packs are pretty much sorted. You will get a lifetime warranty on this, which is about 15 years. And the second owner will get a 10-year warranty on the battery pack, which I think is more than sufficient. And along with that, the maximum charging speed of this is close to 175 kW, which is quite quick. So this car’s battery will charge very quickly. But finding those speed chargers is very rare. And moreover, these are 400V, not 800V. So that is where you will get struggle to finding a speed of 175 on this. Generally, if you go for a 100-150 charger, then in most cases, it will charge at a speed of 90 because of 400V technology that is used on this car.
