2026 Porsche Cayenne EV – I have waited a long time for this

Porsche Cayenne Electric is finally unveiled. I don’t know how many spy photos I’ve seen of it. And honestly, I think it looks a lot better than I expected. It specifically from a rear view. Does have a little bit of static graphic features there. But I do think what Porsche has done well here is to keep the trunk engine alive for the foreseeable future. But if you want to have a Cayenne EV, they now introduce introduces this one which is an absolute beast when it comes to the tech and also the power numbers here. I mean, it’s getting it’s been ridiculous for a while these power numbers, but this just takes it to a whole new level. I mean, it’s faster than the KN Turbo um internal combustion engine version. And as I said, I think it looks pretty good. It doesn’t have EV proportions to it. So, we’re going to have a look at this from all the angles here. And this one being the turbo, you have the active arrow down here. The proportions from a side view, which I have a lot to say about. And then the rear end graphics here. Let me know what you think about this. And then of course, yes, it’s screen bonanza in the interior. We talked about that in a video here on the channel before, but here we have the production version. It looks better than it does when you have all the, you know, ambient colors, the pink and purple colors going around. This looks a little bit better. And there are some good news for the interior. But we’re going to talk about that in a minute. First of all, let’s have a look at this article. Article from Car Scoops, link down below. 1,139 horsepower. I mean, dang. Cayenne Electric is Porsche’s most powerful road car ever. $163,000 for this. 0 to 60, 2.4 seconds, 130 kWh battery, plus active arrow as well. The base car makes around 435 horsepower, which to me sounds still like a lot. It doesn’t sound like I would necessarily need the turbo here. Adaptive air suspension is standard. You also have inductive charging optional. So, you have this floor panel platform that you drive over and then you can charge this without plugging in the cable. I think that is pretty cool to be honest. So, this isn’t just an electrified version of the familiar Cayenne. The new electric models ride on an entirely different platform. It does stretch 5.1 in compared to the Macon electric for example, you got a longer wheelbase than the combustion Cayenne. But at the the same at the same time, even if we have the longer wheelbase, usually what that does, it just messes up their proportions when it comes to EVs. They all have these unnaturally long wheelbase. But in this case, I actually think it you can’t really tell. They’ve they’ve hidden the wheelbase length. It’s a it’s a substantial increase. I mean, over 5 in, but you can’t really tell. Very very cool to see that. So, you got two flavors uh at launch. You got the Cayenne Electric and the Mighty Cayenne Turbo. Of course, electric. Both are all-wheel drive, loaded with tech, and both are clearly designed to make you question why you ever cared about cylinders. Now, come on, Car Scoops. We still care about the cylinders and I would still go with the internal combustion engine Cayenne myself. If I were to pick even if even if the Cayen turbo internal combustion engine is slower than the EV, I really don’t care. I for one still care about cylinders for sure. So $163,000 for the Cayenne Turbo, dual electric motors, 844 horsepower in normal driving. So that’s the normal the base number is 844. Then you have push to pass boost which gives you an additional 173 horsepower for 10 seconds at a time. I’m not sure why car companies, EV car EV car companies or EV cars in general do this. They have this boost button. Why can’t we just have that power at all time? Maybe it’s some something with the heating or you know cooling or something. I’m not entirely sure. So you got launch control. 850 kW translates to 1,139 hors horsepower, 1,16 pound- feet of torque. So, this is an absolute beast when it comes to power. I wonder what it sounds like if it has a specific sound to it. This Cayenne EV, that would be interesting to see. 0 to 60 in 2.4 seconds. The internal combustion does it in 3.1 seconds. But again, I would still go for the internal combustion turbo GT for sure. Top speed 162 miles per hour. The base Cayenne $109,000. $42 horsepower in normal driving, but you also have this boost uh that gives you up to 435 horsepower. 0 to 60 in 4 and 1/2 seconds. Top speed 143 mph. I don’t think that I need the turbo in this case. 4 and a half seconds 0 to 60 is completely fine for me. It feels like the base maybe uses the power a little bit better than the uh uh than the turbo because you you have a substantial amount of more power in the turbo, but it’s still 0 to 60 in 4 and 1/2 seconds for the base model. Pretty interesting to see that. So, your braking can be fed up to 600 kW back to the battery. And Porsche claims that about 90% of routine driving, you don’t even need to step on the brake. And I love to hear this because regen braking, I think every single EV should just be a simple, you know, one pedal driving, have that activated. I want to have it activated at all times. And if I don’t need to use the brake, I can and and instead have the braking coming back, bringing back power into the battery, I would have that on all the time. And it seems like this has a pretty substantial regen braking tech in here. So, both variants can be optioned with rear axle steering. Cayenne Electric can charge it up to 400 kW, which is fantastic. 10 to 80% in 16 sec. I wish it was 60 seconds. Uh, 16 minutes. You also have this optional inductive charging, becoming the first automated guitar for the tech in the US. Pull into your garage, park over this floor pad, and the SUV starts charging itself at 11 kW. And that is great if you just feel like, you know, why not? If you have the pad there, just drive over it. You don’t need to do any additional work to charge it. I think it’s great. Porsche resisted the temp temptation to reinvent the can silhouette too radically. And I do like to see that they kept it pretty conservative when it comes to the uh specifically the side view. You have doors featuring frameless glass. drag coefficient of 0.25 makes it one of the most slippery SUVs in its class. Hidden arrow flaps. You got a smart roof spoiler and trick arrow blades in the front end to help slice through the air. There’s also an off-road package, design package. Interesting to see that. I would love to see this with some beefy 33s with some nice meaty off-road tires, but this package actually gives you completely different front and rear bumpers to improve the approach and departure angles, which is great to see. Now, the interior, you got this new flow display you stretches across the entire dash. Two large OLED screens for gauge cluster infotainment duties. A 14.9 inch passenger display is optional. And then you have the um the centerpiece is going to be the 87 in head-up display augmented reality. I mean this is some crazy tech in this vehicle. At least Porsche kept physical buttons for things like climate and volume. Love to see it. Thank you Porsche for not making all of that into the software. That is the the what matters the most. the climate and the volume of course have always have physical buttons for those and we are good. So US deliveries of the 2026 Kayan electric start late summer 2026. Um but as I said the plug-in hybrid will still be continuing to be developed up until the 2030. So great there as well. I mean I I think it’s cool. You got the choice of either going full EB if you want the Cayenne or you still have the choice to have up to-date internal combustion versions of this up until 10 years from now. Great, great idea. Great, great idea by Porsche. I think this is going to be the exact same layout or plan they’re going to do with the new Cayman and the Boxster as well. I don’t think they’re just going to drop full EVs of those because those are such important models when it comes to small sports cars for Porsche. And I wish I hope they keep the internal combustion engine in there as well. Now looking at the design here, let’s jump into Photoshop. Have a look at the Cayenne Turbo in this case. And the reason why I think this is a pretty decent I mean I wouldn’t call it is it beautiful the face of this? Does it look beautiful to me? I I don’t know. Maybe maybe there is a little bit of beauty in here. What I like about Porsche in general is just that there’s softness that they have in their designs. Now in this case, comparing this to the internal bus version, this got a lot more sharp. There’s a lot more sharper angles in here and chamfers as well. That’s uh that I’m not really used to seeing from Porsche. We have, for example, this big mouth in the lower section with the active arrow. You can see the slots here. A lot of them in the lower section, but this also helps with the drag coefficient, of course, and that is what you want in an EV. You also have some nice looking slim headlights. I do like the designs of the headlights. I think it looks pretty cool. But the one thing I want to change here is they did not consider the placement of the license plate. It just sits right inside of this line here. Just cutting through everything. It would be nice if they could have maybe integrated it a little better, maybe in a lower section here inside of this black graphics. You can see we have the radar down here as well and some functional air slots on the sides to again just funnel in some air here and make it a little slippier through the air. We have some sharpness going on similar to what we have in the new TYON as well. These sharp lines up top on the hood, but overall it’s definitely feels like a Cayenne. There’s nothing too out there with this design. It still feels and looks like a Porsche Cayenne. And that goes for the side view as well. And this is where I’m really surprised to see just how good it looks from a side view because it’s stretched by 5.1 in in the wheelbase compared to the internal combustion engine. As I said, usually what that does, it just completely ruins the proportions of the car. But it doesn’t really do that here because we still have some nice overhang in the front and in the back. And it doesn’t really look like an EV from a side view. We have the A-pillar going down here in typical SUV form going into the top part of the wheel right here. And this is the same type of lines we have in internal combustion engines. Now, this line in the lower section is a very interesting line from Porsche because usually they do not put a lot of sharp lines in the side. They do have a couple of cars with the sharp lines in the lower section exactly like we have here, but I feel like it’s more substantial in this case. And it doesn’t really have a connection to anything in the front or in the I mean in the rear or in the front. So, it feels maybe a little out of place. I’m not entirely sure what I think about that specific line. And then you can see the graphics in the lower section with this black graphics going up here cutting in having this step up and then goes into the back looking pretty cool. And this, of course, is going to remove some of this mass and volume that we have of the overall height of this vehicle. The tail lights look pretty static from this view. They also look static from a rear view, but it doesn’t really matter to me. It’s not a big deal. I thought it was going to look worse than this when I saw the uh camo camo pictures. And the wheel designs look great as well. Thankfully, Porsche did not go into this trend of just covering the entire wheel up just for the sake of range and, you know, airflow. Instead, we have proper nice looking wheels. And again, they are not black. These look to be maybe some satin bronze or something like that. Looking pretty cool. This exterior color, I’m not sure if this is the color that I personally would pick for my Cayenne Turbo EV, but it does set it off in a very in a pretty unique way. Now looking at the rear end, this we have a big diffuser in the in the lower section. As you can see, some more black graphics in this area. It feels maybe like it’s double stacked with too many graphic features in the back. I would like to clean this up and not have this area be black. I want to have this being body color. And then they added some maybe these are active arrows as well. I’m not entirely sure. It looks like we have a fin in here. So some sort of functionality for that area. But the key thing here that I was a little bit worried about is were the tail light unit because it looked too static for me when I saw it in the um in the spy photos. But here it actually does not look too bad. This being the big brother to the Macan um it should be a little bit more static with the bigger the bigger the the car in the lineup, the the more restraint the design is supposed to be. Um and I think they did a pretty decent job here. It doesn’t necessarily look like a uh you know 100% Porsche design DNA, but at least they spelled out Porsche, so you know exactly what it is you’re looking at. We have some roof spoiler up top. And I do I wish they would have hide hidden the uh the wiper underneath there because this isund $100,000 plus car and uh all of these car in this price range just cleaned this area up and hide the wiper underneath the the spoiler up top. Now, last but not least, this interior. Now, do I prefer the old one? Obviously, I do because this is just too many screens. We have one screen here, another one here. This is actually one single screen that is curved like this. Then you have a fourth one right there in addition to this 87 in augmented uh head-up display. So, there is a lot of screens going on here. And but as I said, it looks better here in in these production studio photos than it does when you had all these ambient lighting in and per pink and purple stuff going on that we saw initially of the interior. But still, is it is it welcoming to me? I don’t know. I have to actually I feel like I have to wait and see until I actually sit in one of these and feel the materials and feel how the dash is building up around me. Is it is it a cozy interior or not? It doesn’t look too bad if I can just dial down the brightness of all these screens that we have going on here. I just wish they kept at least keep the uh analog beautiful the piece of art that you used to have in the previous generation, the tachometer right in the middle. It was so beautiful 3D design of it with all the chamers inside and the and the framing for it. Now, unfortunately, everything has gone into pixelated as you can see. But thankfully, we do have the climate settings down here being some, look at this, some nice toggles down there. Great to see that they kept that. They could have easily just implemented everything into this screen and that would have made this interior a whole lot worse than what it is um right now. So, interesting choice by Porsche and I can’t wait to see the Cayman the Boxster go in the exact same direction as it did here. meaning that we’re still going to have an internal combustion engine for the Boxster and Cayman, but they’re also going to introduce full EV versions. And you’re going to see that they’re probably going to sell 20% EVs of that type of vehicle, 80% internal combustion versions, and they’re going to be very happy that they made that decision. However, when it comes to the Ca Cayenne here, I think this Cayenne EV is actually going to sell pretty well because it’s not really a sports car. And people who buy this, they buy it for more practicality than for sporty attributes like we have in the Cayman and Boxer. So, pretty cool design and I am uh positively surprised by how decent this actually looks from the exterior.
