BMW Kills The M3: The i4 M60 Proves Electric Is The Superior Performance Car
BMW’s new i4 M60 is a lot faster than the M3. So, if you got to buy, you know, you go to BMW, you think, “Oh man, I’ve waited 20 years to save up for this vehicle. I’m now 50 years old.” That’s about the age of the average buyer. In fact, the average age buyer is about 55 years old. And you think, “Well, I’m going to buy this great performance car.” You get it on the road and you realize that actually someone who just bought an electric vehicle, their car is much faster than yours and an electric BMW at that. Click on that and you can get an update every day of all the latest news in the electric car industry. The new 2026 BMW i4. I don’t recommend buying one, by the way. They’re not bad, but just not amazing. But anyway, it has extra power and extended range. It now gets 333 m per charge. Efficiency is improved. And it’s got 593 horsepower in sport mode. To be fair, 593 horsepower is minuscule in comparison to its rivals in China, such as the new Zika 001, which is actually much faster and about half the price. But anyway, this is not China. This is BMW, and you can buy their vehicles everywhere. BMW introduced the updated i4 lineup earlier this year, and now they’ve announced US specs. So, this is for the US um cars, more power, more range. entry- level i4e drive 40. This model gains more efficient sic inverters from the i5 and as a result it gets 333 mi of range which is 536 km but that’s EPA range. So WLTP range is just over 600. That’s when it comes with 18in wheels. If you put bigger wheels on, your range will drop substantially. But anyway, that’s an improvement in terms of range of 15 mi or 24 km if you put 19in wheels on. Yeah. Then you lose range. Your range drops to 307 miles. So you’re losing 26 miles of range from going one inch bigger wheels. That’s 494 km. Anyway, the new i4 M60. This is the performance car here that kind of does compare to a BMW M3 in some ways. The i4 M50. it um it’s been superseded and you can now get the i4 M60. So, this gets 510 horsepower or 380 kW which is um um I mean it’s okay. It’s okay because I mean you can get a Zika 7X allhe drive which has 475 kW or in China 580 kW which is you know it’s like 700 plus horsepower at for half the price but anyway this is still good and it’s an increase in power of 41 horsepower or 31 kW versus the previous generation for no extra cost as well. Sport mode. If you select that, power does jump up though to 593 horsepower, which is 442 kW. And that’s an increase of 57 horsepower. It can do 0 to 100 as a result in 3.6 seconds. So, it’s pretty fast. And in fact, it’s half a second faster from 0 to 100 than a BMW M3. Yeah, it’s nearly as fast as the M3 Competition X drive, which is just like double the price, nearly double the price of an M3. Anyway, this model is more efficient as well than its predecessor as it’s gets 19in wheels. So, it has 278 mi of range, which is 447 km. With 20-in wheels, the model gets 232 mi of range. That’s 373 km and that’s an improvement of about 5%. To be honest, the Tesla Model 3, if you’re in the US, is probably a better deal. Um, the Model 3 Performance because it’s much cheaper and it has a lot more range. Um, and it’s actually faster as well. Anyway, besides increased range and performance, there are a handful of other minor updates. All models now come with a seal and drive tire kit, while a drive recorder has been added to the parking assistant professional package. You can also get optional glass controls on all i4 models. So, I guess that’s one difference between Tesla, isn’t it? Um, the interior, you know, it’s a bit more premium. You’ve got a bit more going on in terms of buttons. There’s lots of traditional looking buttons. And the interior does look a bit more traditional BMW as well, although it’s got that new kind of big panoramic screen. styling. Not much has changed. There are black mirror caps and M Sport brakes with blue calipers as part of the Shadowline package on the i4e drive 40 and the X drive 40. Uh yeah, Reync Solar is the company that I used. I’ll put a link to them in the description below. Production, where can you buy it? Well, it goes into production in November in the US. Pricing starts at 57,900 for the i4e drive 40. So, it’s actually price is not bad for the E drive 40, but that’s not the car in this video. This is a different model. This is the i4 M60. And price for that model starts at $7,700. If you want the i4 X drive 40, that is the midspec model. That’s 62,300. So yeah, if you want this BMW M3 beta in terms of performance from in a straight line anyway, it’s $7,700. So yeah, a bit more expensive than a Tesla, of course, which is reasonable, but at the same time, you’ve got to say that range is a lot less than some of its other rivals. Guys, all in all though, if I was personally considering an M3, BMW M3, I think this would be better. I really do. I think um you’d get used to the noise and you wouldn’t miss it. You you’ get used to the lack of noise and I think you’d get used to the fact that actually EVs are better than internal combustion, even when it comes to performance cars. Let me know your thoughts.
