JAECOO J7 SHS Plug-in Hybrid 2025 UK // Steering TOO Light?
I’ve bought the JQ J7 in 2025 and I’ve already made a few videos on it from my first thoughts, the top five features I love about it and how it drives. And now on those videos, I’ve had quite a few people ask about the steering. Now, they must have read something or heard something. Now, I must admit, the steering is very light. Now, that’s not a problem for me. This is a big SUV, family size car. I don’t mind having a light steering wheel. I don’t want a heavy steering wheel. The steering is really, really easy. Now, I will say you do have to put a fair amount of input into the steering wheel to get the car to go where you want. And I use that in in comparison to my other car, which is a BMW 1 Series 2013. It’s nothing special, but that’s got a sport mode. And when you put that into sport mode, everything kind of tightens up. The steering tightens up, becomes more precise, requires less input. Like the suspension tightens up, everything just gets a little bit sportier. And this isn’t like that at all. Whether you’ve got it in normal, eco mode, or sport, like it does need quite a lot of input to steer. I could do the same road in both cars, and the BMW is so precise. It goes exactly where you want it, again, with minimal input. The JU isn’t like that. I’m not saying it’s a problem because again, for me, this is the big vehicle. Like I don’t really care if it needs a little bit more input into the steering wheel to get around the same corner. Like I haven’t got this to be a fast, sporty, fun car. Some people might not appreciate how light the steering is in 400 yards. That’s the beauty of it. That’s why we go and test drive cars. You got to go and find out if it’s right for you. I will add a little caveat in saying, yeah, you do have to steer a little bit more into the corners, but the vehicle is still extremely precise when you are going into the corners and going through the corners. Like like at no point am I over steering or under steering because of how light the steering is. Hopefully that’s cleared it up a little bit for you guys.
