BYD’s unexpected incoming model isn’t a normal car, or even an EV?!

Hey guys, BYD is showing off all their cars today. In fact, and Denza as well. But the new side of the show is outside the BYD Shark. The Shark or the Shark 6 as it labeled here. It’s a bit of a strange animal. Apart from the weirdness of BYD making a truck, this one doesn’t have a typical pickup powertrain. Instead of a turbo diesel, this one is a PHEV, but it operates more like an REV, a range extended electric vehicle. Up front, it’s got a 1.5 liter turbo petrol mounted longitudinally producing 230 PS. In the middle, it has a LFP blade battery at 29 kwatt hours, which is apparently enough to take it up to 100 km on pure electric range alone. But this big battery sends power to two electric motors, one on each axle, for a total of 430 PS. After taking a ride in one, it does really feel comfortable compared to other trucks. Probably because it’s got a fully independent suspension all around, though this would mean a lower laden capacity and towing capacity. Plus, the interior feels nicely appointed as well. It’s definitely more of a lifestyle kind of truck and probably not meant to compete with something like a Hilux blow forblow. But don’t be surprised if it can do about 80% of the off-road stuff that the Toyota or the Isuzu or the Ranger can do. Efficiency wise, it should be able to do over 800 km on a full tank and a full battery. With that kind of power, Z 100 arrives in just 5.7 seconds. Will BYD actually bring it in and locally assemble it? Yes, most likely. But I suspect the real target market is Thailand. When? Definitely next year and definitely maybe not early next year. What do you guys think of the BYD Shark 6? Any guesses on how much it’ll cost or when it might be arriving? Let us know in the comments.
