All-NEW Toyota Hilux BEV 2026 – Battery Electric Power (FIRST LOOK visual review)
Toyota just dropped something nobody saw coming. The all-new 2026 Hilux goes electric for the first time ever. This is the ninth generation of the world’s most indestructible pickup and it’s rolling into December with a battery pack under the floor. The Hilux Bev packs a 59.2 kWh lithium ion battery feeding dual electric motors. You get 205 new m of torque up front and 268.6 six at the rear, giving you permanent all-wheel drive without any traditional diff locks or low range gears. Toyota ditched those for something smarter. The multi-terrain select system adjusts brake and torque control to match different surfaces, basically giving you L4 range performance through software. Pretty clever range sits at approximately 240 km on the WLTP cycle. That’s about 149 mi. Before you panic, Toyota engineered this specifically for fleet work. Think forestry operations, airport ground crews, construction sites where you’re not running cross country. For those applications, this range works perfectly. Plus, Toyota’s promising best-in-class charging capabilities to minimize downtime. Inside, you get the full Land Cruiser treatment. Dual 12.3 in screens dominate the dash with wireless charging and a shift bywire selector replacing the old school lever. All the off-road controls cluster together in the center for quick access. The cabin quality jumped several levels compared to the previous generation. The electric Hilux still rides on that legendary body-on-frame construction. Toyota reinforced the ladder chassis and tucked the battery between the frame rails, keeping the truck’s DNA intact. Waiting depth matches the diesel model, and they added serious protection to keep water and impacts away from the battery. This thing’s built to take abuse. Payload capacity hits 715 kg and you can tow up to 1,600 kg. Not diesel numbers, but remember this isn’t competing with diesel for heavy hauling. It’s carving out its own space in the commercial vehicle world. Toyota’s rolling this out starting December 2025, leading with the BEV before the hybrid 48 volt and diesel variants follow in spring 2026. They’re even confirming a hydrogen fuel cell version for 2028. The Hilux just became the most versatile pickup on the planet. Thanks for watching.
