How to charge a Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV!

Hi everybody, driving with Dane here coming to you with a quick video uh on something kind of cool that I wanted to talk about for a minute. Um that is how to charge a Dodge Hornet RT. So um I am a Dodge guy at heart and RT stands for road and track. Um generally with most Dodge products in the past that’s meant it has a 5.7 liter Hemi which I’ve always been a big fan of. Um in this particular case though means that it is a plug-in hybrid. So, today I’m going to show you how to charge it. Now, not everybody, of course, is going to have a wall box like this um built into their building like we do. So, if you’re using a regular level one cord, um you’ll want to plug into the wall first. You always want to do the wall first and then the car. Um so, of course, car is turned off right now. Um you’re going to come up to the driver’s side, push on the little door. It’ll pop open just like fuel door. You’re going to see this little guy in here. Pull that out. And then make sure you have the same charger. This is a J1772 plugin. Um, basically this is everything except a Tesla or a level three fast charger. You can’t use a level three fast charger on the Hornet, but you’re going to push that in like so. You’ll see the lights change. You’ll see these guys light up over here. Now, the important thing here, green means go. So, each little light represents 20% charge. So, right now, this car was pretty much totally out of battery. So, it’s less than 20% charge. So, only the little light, the bottom light is blinking. Um, there is a little guide over here. So, you can see obviously blinking, green is charging, blue. So, you can set a charge schedule with this like most other plug-in hybrids. So, if you live in an area that does off peak hours, you can set it to only charge during those. Save yourself a little bit on power. Uh, so if it’s blue, basically, that’ll mean the car is plugged in, ready to charge, but it’s waiting until it meets the charge schedule. Um, and then solid green of course means full charged. Red means you have some kind of an issue. Either your connector is not good, your wall’s not plugged in properly or something to that effect. This button over here um can be used to unlock um the charger. Um so not generally something you’re going to have to mess with, but there is a little thing here that talks about um unlocking the car cuz it can lock this door as well. Um, now when you come in here and open the door, you’re going to see we’re at about 16% battery plugged in and charging and about an just shy of two hours to get to full charge. Um, which is pretty good. Sounds about right. This is of course on a level two level one figure probably overnight is generally the estimate I give people. It varies. Um, but overnight’s a pretty safe bet. So, um, like I said, that’s a real quick guide on how to charge a Dodge Hornet RT. Let me know what you guys think and let me know if you would buy a, uh, plug-in hybrid Dodge Hornet or if you would stick to the regular GT and just get the gas engine.
