KAHULUI (HawaiiNewsNow) – For the fourth time in a year, a destructive burglary has left a family of Maui wildfire survivors reeling.
Around 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning, surveillance video captured a pickup truck backing through the windows of E-Moto USA on Alamaha Street in Kahului.
Two suspects are seen pulling bikes from the debris.
Owners Andrea and Tomas Havranek moved to the Alamaha Street location after their Lahania store burned down in 2023.
Theives had previously broken into the store twice last year and again this past June.
“We live together and we should help each other and not to basically steal from each other,” Tomas said.
With no arrests in any of the cases, the Havarneks said they’re not only frustrated with the crimes, but also the response from the Maui Police Department.
“How come they are so incompetent? They are not able to, you know, find a couple of guys? They are going around and stealing over here,” Havranek said.
“I believe they (suspects) are doing it over and over because there are no consequences,” he added.
The Havraneks estimate about $20,000 in damage and lost inventory, and are unsure when they’ll reopen.
They added that they may have to close down permanently.
The truck involved in Thursday’s robbery was tan/gold, but no license plate was reported.
Anyone with information is asked to contact MPD’s Criminal Investigation Division at (808) 244-6425.
