VMAX VX2 Hub E-Scooter Review: 33 MPH of Pure Fun!
[Music] What if you could have an electric scooter that was fast, powerful, affordable, safe, and actually felt good on a variety of terrains? Well, I think I finally found what I’ve been looking for. Hey everyone, Micah here with Electric, and today we’re reviewing the new V-Max VX2 hub electric scooter. It’s got full suspension and goes 33 mph. Come along with us while we check it out. Okay, let’s speedrun the specs here so we can get to the feel of the scooter. Now, there are two versions of this scooter with different battery sizes, but they both feature a really powerful rear hub motor with a 1900 W peak power rating that can climb hills up to 35% grade, which is basically higher than any hill in San Francisco. You can get either the 13 A battery, which is 642 W hours, or the 18.2 A battery, which is 874 W hours. That works out to either 44 or 56 mi of range, which is basically enough for pretty much any commute, but just means that you won’t need to charge the scooter as often between uses. When it comes to speed, this scooter is fast. It can do 33 mph, and it actually feels good at those speeds. While I have ridden bigger and faster scooters, this is around my sweet spot. By the time I start hitting 40 mph on those bigger scooters, I’m starting to question my choices. You should still wear safety gear even at 33 mph. I should probably have my Beyond Riders armored gear on for this like I do when I ride my motorcycles. But hey, at a bare minimum, make sure you’ve got that helmet on. And I should also point out that the power is palpable here. I accidentally had it in highest power mode the very first time I got on the scooter, and I was not expecting it to be this torquy. So, I just went full throttle and I immediately started wheelieing. This is not like a cheap budget scooter where you just treat the throttle like an onoff switch in its highest power mode. This is more like a real vehicle where you actually treat the throttle like an accelerator pedal and decide how much power you want for any given scenario. Of course, you don’t have to keep it in high power mode, but let’s get real, a lot of people will. One thing I love about this scooter is that even in eco mode, you can still get almost full speed. You just don’t get the insane launch power off the line, which is probably nicer for some people. Now, of course, you can still put it in sport mode, it’s over here, or if you push the power button five times, you hear that little beep beep. That means you’re now in the boost mode and you get even more power. [Music] The rubberized deck here is nice and grippy, but it’s also kind of a footprint magnet. I mean, it’s a scooter. You knew it would happen. It’s going to get dirty. But I definitely ruined my pretty glamour shots by riding it to my B-roll spot instead of pushing it there. I also like how it has a very sturdy folding mechanism here, which is important on a powerful and fast scooter. And in the back, it’s got this nice lock and load hook for capturing the stem, so you don’t always have the hook sticking out there in your way. And you can just launch it up when you need it when you want to fold the scooter. Another safety nod here are the turn signals. There are rear turn signals that stick out further to the sides, kind of like little motorcycle turn signals, and actually have a bit of a prayer of being correctly interpreted by cars. But to make things even more clear, you’ve got these handlebar mounted turn signals as well that shine both forward and rearwards. I’ve ridden V-Max scooters during night commutes before, and the lighting is a big deal, especially when your go-to filming uniform happens to be a black tea and blue jeans. And I should point out that while this is not really designed as an off-road scooter, per se, it can hold its own during those times where you need to get a bit creative with your route. It’s not super long travel suspension, but as long as you’re going over a relatively flat surface, it can definitely soak up those bumps and dips quite nicely. If you take it into thicker grass or more technical off-road areas, yeah, it’s going to be a less smooth ride, but it’s still manageable compared to a rigid scooter or even just a simply front suspension scooter. So, there’s definitely some suspension going on here. Still, you might not even see it down here, but there is a USBC charge port right there, so you can charge up your phone or whatever else you have with you right off of your scooter. Now, V-Max does have a pretty robust smartphone app to go with the scooter. And while I know that’s great for a lot of people, I’m not that super into apps that control my scooters. And so I really respect that V-Max has made that optional here. You do not need to sign up and use the app to operate the scooter. It only unlocks more features and potential. I’m tired of other companies that force me to download and use another app just to be able to turn on and use my scooter. So V-Max gets big points from me in that column. For pricing, the scooter starts at 1,199 bucks or a couple hundred more for that extended range version. I definitely think this one is worth it at that price because of just how well-made the scooter feels. It definitely feels solid under me, which is what I want in a nearly 2,000 W 33 mph scooter here. Between the 10-in tubeless tires and that full suspension design, the scooter feels like a midi motorcycle under you, planted and solid, but it’s still easy to transport and store.
