Plug-in hybrids aren’t as green as you think. (But it’s not your fault!) #hybridcar #PHEV

Yeah. And that’s that’s difficult for the average person as well to not necessarily get their head around. I think it, you know, people can get their head around it, but they don’t know about it. So, you know, you’re the average person who thinks, I’m not ready for an electric car, but I’ve heard that plug-in hybrids could be the slightly more eco-friendly choice. Let’s go get one. Well, actually, not necessarily that’s being missold, but it’s a lot more kind of complex than than what you see on the surface. So actually your your purchase that you think is green and you’re doing your bit for the environment isn’t actually necessarily as green as the as you want it to be. And I think that’s a shame for a lot of well-meaning people who maybe don’t know enough about what it’s like to drive a fully electric vehicle and how easily that might fit into their lifestyle, which would be the greener choice. They’re not getting that information or they’re having to wade through so much misinformation that they go safer to get a plug-in hybrid. I’m still doing my part when actually it’s not not really as good as it

I joined Alex Grant on the Chargeheads YEV podcast to discuss whether plug-in hybrids are greenwashing. We looked at the data surrounding electric-only miles to uncover how people really use their hybrids.

This clip discusses how well-meaning buyers might think a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is the greener choice and a nice gateway to a fully electric vehicle when, actually, they’re being misled.

As always, it’s a balanced view on the topic. We cover the data around PHEVs, typical uses for them, how they’re used in fleets, the promise of e-fuels, charging infrastructure and much more.
