$4,500 Rivian E-Bike, Layoffs & Big News You Can’t Miss This Week

This has been one of the wildest weeks in Rivian news in a very long time. Rivian’s sister company also revealed far more than just an ebike. Rivian announced significant layoffs. R.J. stepped into another leadership role. A new software update dropped with Halloween mode included. And California’s Department of Transportation made a massive investment in Terivian. There’s a lot to unpack that you won’t want to miss. Now, let’s dive in. First up this week, you might remember Rivian’s micromobility spin-off. Also, up until now, all we really knew was that they were working on an ebike. We had a few leaked images, but no real details. That’s changed this week. Also officially unveiled their first ebike, now available for pre-order with deliveries expected to begin in spring of 2026. Their ebike is called the TMB, short for transcendent mobility bike, and it’s a unique softwaredefined bike with some seriously impressive tech. At its core is a pedalbywire drivetrain called Dream Ride, which delivers up to 10 times assist, an incredible 180 new me of torque, and even regen braking in a bicycle. But what really stands out to me is its modularity. The top frame pops off using a magnetic connection, letting you quickly swap between commuter, cargo, or family configurations within seconds. And just like Rivian’s vehicles, it also receives over-the-air updates and offers up to 100 mi of range depending on which battery you end up choosing. And even better, your battery doubles as a portable power bank that can be removed from the bike to charge things like phones, laptops, whatever you have. And if you run out of juice, just top it up with a USBC charger. And that’s not all. Alongside the ebike also teased two TMQ electric quads, one consumer version and another built with Amazon for delivery purposes. Honestly, they look straight out of a Pixar movie. They also revealed a smart helmet called the Alpha Wave, which features built-in audio and lighting that syncs seamlessly with your bike. Now, here’s the big question, though. What’s the damage going to be on your bank account? The launch and performance model of the TMB will cost $4,500, while a more affordable version with around 60 mi of range has a price still to be announced. Also, plans to host demo events soon. So, if you’re curious about getting hands on, make sure you subscribe to my channel. I’ll be covering those when they happen. I also plan to put together a deep dive video to nerd out on all the specs once I’ve wrapped my head around everything that they revealed. But my question to you, what do you think about the price? Is 4500 too much for an ebike like this, or do you see it as a steal for what you’re getting? Next up, we need to talk about something that’s not so great. Another round of layoffs at Rivian. Before diving in, I want to pause and acknowledge that this is never an easy topic. These aren’t just numbers on a page. This is about real people with real families who are suddenly facing uncertainty. My hope is that everyone that’s impacted is able to land on their feet quickly and find new opportunities ahead. According to the Wall Street Journal, Rivian is cutting more than 600 jobs, about 4% of its workforce as part of what CEO RJ Scringe called a structural adjustment. The move comes as the EV market cools and Rivian embraces for the end of the $7,500 federal tax credit, which is expected to hit demand across the board. The company has also trimmed its fullear delivery outlook slightly, now aiming for around 41,000 to 43,000 vehicles, even though Q3 deliveries actually rose by 32% year-over-year. Rivian says that the cuts will help streamline operations and focus resources as the gear up for the R2 launch in 2026. It’s a reminder that even as production ramps up, profitability and efficiency are still front and center. Now, because of these cuts, R.J. is taking on yet another responsibility. In an email to employees on Thursday, he announced that he’ll be stepping in as Rivian’s interim chief marketing officer while the company searches for its first permanent CMO. According to TechCrunch, we’re finally seeing it, though. Crunch time from here on out until R2 is fully launched. Next up, I want to take a quick moment to plug my last video where I did a full deep dive on this year’s Halloween update. You can check that out right here. And if you missed everything included in software update 2025.38, make sure to catch last week’s news update video, which I’ve linked in the description down below. All right, now to wrap things up. According to Rivian Tracker, the California Department of Transportation has ordered more than 600 Rivian R1 vehicles, making it one of the largest public sector Rivian purchases to date. This order includes both R1Ts and R1S’s, which will be deployed across the state. And honestly, it just makes sense. California is ground zero for Riven right now. When I visited earlier this year, Rivians were absolutely everywhere. And the data backs it up. The R1 is currently the most popular luxury SUV in the state. Do I think other states will jump in right away? Probably not. But hopefully this serves as a great example of how government fleets can start adopting EVs like Rivian when the timing is absolutely right. But that’s it for this week’s Rivian news. If you found this helpful, make sure that you like, subscribe, and hit the bell so you don’t miss the next update. Next week, I’m hopefully going to be sharing a new product that I just got from Hest for camping. So, you’ll definitely want to stick around. Thank you so much for watching, and remember, adventure is always out there.
