Pascal Wehrlein on the new Porsche Macan GTS | Quickfire questions
Pascal, are you ready? I’m ready. Nice. What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of the Macan GTS? It is a very fun car to drive. With the low center of gravity, it drives fantastic. With the more rewards weight distribution, you really feel like it’s super agile. You can be super precise. It has a good amount of power. And for me it is a a perfect all round everyday car. It’s comfortable but still very sporty. What’s your favorite design element of the Macan GTS? There are many favorite design elements of the Macan GTS. First of all the coupe like fly line. Then the sport design package which in contrast has the matte black and the high gloss black which you can see here at the front here at the side. Very nice detail here. And in the back, I love the Gurnie, which has a beautiful design, but also it adds performance to the car. And as someone who enjoys gaming, I really love that you can game on the displays. Compared to the 9X electric, they have some things in common. What does that mean for you? Yeah, it’s very cool to see that we share things we learn on track from the racetrack to the road cars. So the track endurance mode for example which is preconditioning the battery is something which we always do on the racetrack. We cool down the battery so we get later into the deer rating and that is a technology we used already since a long time and it’s very cool to see that we also use it now in the Macan. What’s something people might not know about the Macan GTS? The Macan GTS accelerates from 0 to 100 in 3.8 seconds. It has a power of 560 PS and 571 in overboost. How does the Macan GTS compare to other cars in your garage? The thing is you really feel that it is a Porsche. It drives like a Porsche. It feels like a Porsche and it would be a beautiful add-on in my garage because as a dad with a 2 years old daughter, it’s it would be the perfect everyday car. Uh big trunk, a lot of space. How would you describe the sound of the Macan GTS? I would describe the sound as very honest and supportive. So in sport mode there’s already a sound and then in the sport plus it goes quite a bit louder because as a driver you really rely on the feedback from the sound from the steering and and therefore the more support and the more help you can get from the car the more accurate and precise you can drive. Instant torque. Is it a blessing or a beast? And how do you handle that electric punch off the line? I’m a big fan of it because it makes your life a lot easier. First of all, it’s very enjoyful and um a lot of fun. Um if you need to overtake a truck or other cars, it is actually safer as well because it makes you pass the car faster. And especially the instant torque in an electric car and how the software is reacting on an electric car is super precise. What is your first memory of Porsche? So, my first memory was uh very early when I was 8 or 10 years old. Uh we were playing on the football pitch and um I saw a car passing by which was a Porsche GT3 and uh I stopped playing football just to enjoy the sound. What’s next on your bucket list? Next on my bucket list is to become a double world champion. I want to be the most successful driver.
