Ford’s Electric Car Sales Set Record Highs in Q3 2025
Now, of course, the doomsdayers, they’re saying Ford’s electric car sales are about to plummet. In fact, even the CEO of Ford claims this, but I’m not sure about that. And Ford’s EV sales went absolutely ballistic in the third quarter of this year to record highs. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching the Electric Viking. Ford sold 87,000 electric vehicles in Q3, up 20% year-over-year. Mustang McKe and F-150 Lightning posted record quarterly sales. Hybrids, um, they’re doing well as well. Ford posted its seventh or eighth month of growth and capped off a pretty successful third quarter. It wasn’t just one or two models though that did the heavy lifting. Not only were traditional internal combustion engine vehicles like the Bronco, the Explorer, and the Expedition big hits. By the way, there’s a new electric Bronco and an E-Rev Bronco in China, which in my opinion kill the American version. However, electrified cars, trucks, and SUVs also smashed records. Here’s a look at what happened for Ford over the last few months. During the quarter, Ford and Lincoln sold a combined 85,800 electrified vehicles, including both hybrids and purely electric cars. That’s up 20% compared to last year. It made up 16% of the brand sales. And compared to last quarter, that’s nice because last quarter was only 13.5%. Some of that well those some of those sales obviously came from people taking up this expiring tax credit offer. This is the $75,000 obviously though Ford and General Motors have found a loophole to keep it alive for a few more months. Anyhow, this is backed up in part by the huge gains Ford saw in its EV sales. It delivered 30,612 electric cars, a 30% increase versus the same 3 months in 2024. Mustang Mache, which to be honest is kind of getting a bit dated and old now, recorded its best quarter since launching in 2024. Well, actually 5 years ago. Holy hell. Climbing 50.7% to 20,200. The F-150 Lightning also posted a record quarter with 10,05 vehicles sold, up 40%. Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue and Model E, said, “The results highlight the company’s balance across powertrains. We saw strong performance in gas, hybrid, and electrified powertrains while at the same time growing our paid software solutions, all embedded in vehicles such as Expedition, Explorer, and F-150. Now, interestingly, Ford is actually on track to out sell General Motors and Stellantis when it comes to the combination of hybrids and EVs this year, which is pretty surprising. So, is Ford on the right track for success over the next 5 years? Well, in my opinion, absolutely not. Not at all. In fact, um Ford’s share price has gone down recently because I think investors are not confident in the fact that Ford can transition to an electric future, which it has to. Even if you live in the United States, that’s great. I know people in the US probably don’t want to buy EVs, and they might not, but the rest of the world is. And by 2035, almost all of the planet will be buying EVs. If Ford can’t sell a lot more than this percentage, uh then they are in trouble. So, yes, awesome to see Ford EV sales increase, but they aren’t increasing anywhere near fast enough. And by the sounds of the CEO’s comments recently, I believe it was yesterday, saying our EV sales are going to have over the next year, that means Ford is not really headed in the right direction. Much of the world, including the United States, doesn’t get the Ford Bronco, the EV version. You know, it’s funny because China now has an electric Ford Bronco. The US doesn’t have a Ford Bronco that’s electric. It’s kind of insane actually considering the Ford Bronco is one of the most popular cars in America. In fact, in Australia, we could get an electric Ford Bronco before you guys do. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching the Electric Viking. Ford has opened pre-orders in China for an electric version of the Bronco and an E-Rev version of the Bronco. And you can also get a one-touch roof camping package for $1,700 for free if you pre-order the car. Place a pre-order for $140. You get a rooftop camping package, which includes an electric lifting roof and one-touch automatic folding front seat headrest, so you can make a bed out of all the seats. Design-wise, the the Chinese Bronco does look a little different to the American one. It’s a bit more streamlined. I mean, obviously, it wants to be a bit more arrow. So, that’s part of the change. But one big change that you’ve not going to, it’s not so obvious. You probably might not have noticed is it comes with a LAR system mounted on the roof and more than 30 high precision sensors and cameras. Plus, it has a kind of a floating roof design, slightly raised wheel arches, not quite as aggressive as the US-made version, obviously. However, the dimensions, it’s a pretty big vehicle, right? It’s 5,025 mm long and it’s nearly 2 m wide. The extended range version is pretty much the same size as the EV version. The EV version is just a little bit lower. It’s 15 millimeters lower. So, so just over half an inch lower in order to improve range for the electric version. Speaking of range, the Bronco comes with a quite a big battery pack. It’s 105 kWh battery, NMC battery, 650 km of range. with that battery. If you want to get the extended range version, it comes with a 1.5 L turbocharged engine with two electric motors and it gets a 44 kWh battery pack. I believe it’s a lithiumion phosphate battery pack. Pure electric range is 220 km CLTC. So, probably about 100 miles on the EPA cycle of EV only range. Combined range 1,220 km. the Ford Bronco EV is the one I’d be going for. But to be honest, I think a lot of Americans would buy the – and the EV, but I think there’s not really many E-Revs available in the US. If you’re wondering what an E-Rev is, it’s basically Ford have just taken the they’ve built the electric version of the Bronco. Then they have basically converted the electric version of the Bronco into an E-Rev. So often plug-in hybrids are not really built up from the ground as an EV only. They’re more built as an internal combustion car that’s been converted into a plug-in hybrid. And often, not always, but often e-revs are the opposite. They are built as an EV only. In this case, that’s what Ford’s done. [Music]
