2026 BYD Tang DM-i First Impressions | AutoDeal Walkaround
If you’ve ever been to a social event where you spot someone familiar, but you’ve never formally met, then you know exactly how I feel about the allectric BYD tank. Never formally met. But now that BYD is with Ayala, I wanted to make sure that that never happens again. Because this, ladies and gentlemen, is the 2026 BYD tank DMI. [Music] Now, as I’ve hinted, the all-electric BYD tank has been available locally for quite some time. And if you whip out the Autodeal app, iOS and Android absolutely free, you’ll find that the Allle Electric BYD tank comes in at 3,321,000 Philippine pesos. Now, while we don’t have the exact price of this unit right now as we’re filming, we’re actually publishing this when the unit itself launches. So, we’ll have the prices for you in the comments down below. As of right now, what I’ve been told is that the indicative price is round about 2.2 million Philippine pesos, which is round about the same price as a Kia Sarrento Hybrid. Now, since BYD has a pension for pricing things really, really well, when you see the price down below, tell me what you think. Yay or nay? Let us know in the comments below. Underneath you have a 1.5 L turbocharged gasoline engine that’s paired with an electric motor that produces 267 horses and 315 new m of torque with a range I’m told to be roughly about 1,160 km which is quite amazing. Now, the battery supplied for the electric motor is a 21.5 kWh battery, which if you charge with a 7 kilowatt charger, you can get from 10 to 80% in roughly about 3 hours. But if you do it with a much faster charger, say up to 40 kilwatt hours, you can go from 10 to 80% in roughly about 30 minutes. Now, while the exterior has similarities to other BYD products, we’ll get to that a little bit later. But first, the engine. because the engine is basically the same as what you would find inside the Shark 6 DMO, but the transmission is more like the Sea Lion 6 because that is an ECVT. A huge question will be fuel efficiency. Well, we left Edza. We’ve left from Edza this morning, hit Enlex and then we did Din Lupian uh off of Esex and then through Batan and then here to Anva and we did 23.8 8 0 9 So 81 no 80 no. Yeah 23.8 that’s pretty good. Great similarities lie between the Tang DMI and the Sea Lion 5DMI. The front grill is identical complemented with LEDs and DRLs. Down the side, you’ve got roof rails at top a floating roof line, thanks to the blacked out portion on the D-pillar. Repeaters and cameras are on the side mirrors as part of the 360 view. 20-in wheels wrapped in 25550s that house discs front and rear, all above 182 mm of ground clearance. Tail lamps wrap the rear well, and a light bar stretches the entire width. Pop open the power tailgate, which is always a good thing. 265 L of space behind the third row. Yes, there are three rows inside this vehicle. Fold the third row and you are looking at 940 L of space. And then when you fold the second row, you’re looking at 1,655 L of space. Plus also, if you have a cooler that has, you know, power to it, there is also a 12vt socket right here that you can plug your stuff in. The third row, as you can see, is much better for smaller passengers, as there are also no toys back here. There are a pair of speakers, but there are no charging points here. You do have cup holders, but really that’s about it. Let me demonstrate to you the space when the second row is up. Now, that actually is pretty generous because the front row or the second row does actually move forward and back because it’s on rails. So depending on how generous the people are going to be in front, that’s how much room you’re going to have here at the back. As mentioned, the second row is on rails, so you can extend it as far as that, which is actually pretty cool. That’s my normal driving position. Thigh support is very good. Obviously, the space is going to be fantastic. And the headroom is not so bad, even with the panoramic roof directly above you. Now, toys back here include two air vents directly in front of you, right? And then underneath that, something that pops open by the push. And then you’ve got your charging points right there in the form of type A and type C. Now, you’ve got bottle holders on either door, speakers of course. And then obviously you’ve got a center armrest with two cup holders. And then this little area here, you can put your knick-knack patty give a dog a bone kind of a thing. That’s nice. Also a nice touch. I don’t know if you can see it because it’s kind of like daytime right now, but there are lights inside the cabin that makes it so much nicer. In the pilot seat, very easy to get into your proper driving position because it is powered. So is the passenger. And not only powered, these seats have cool seating in them in them. I mean, cold air flows through. I love it. Okay, so in front of you, a 12.3 in screen. uh fully colored. That is your instrument cluster. Very bright. Everything that you need is all there. You have buttons on your steering wheel to control your functions on your audio systems and your cruise control. That is adaptive, by the way, because obviously this will have a full suite of advanced driver assist systems. In the center, you have a 15.6 touchscreen infotainment system, obviously with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both of which, by the way, are wireless. And also the fact that BYD finally fixed the screen. There wasn’t anything wrong with it. It’s just that now it doesn’t turn anymore. Oh, cuz it’s fixed. It’s fixed. It’s fixed. And if you’re one of the few people out there that are going to go, “Ah, why doesn’t it turn anymore?” I bet tell me, what were you really going to use the turning screen for? Because once it’s vertical, you can’t use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto anyway. Come on, just leave it as that. Uh, directly below that, air vents. And then you pop this open to reveal the cup holders. You have your electronic shifter in the center, buttons for your air and your audio as well. You have a wireless charger here that it can charge up to 50 watts, which is pretty fast. And in the center, you have a box that can hold other things. And there are charging points as well, uh, type A, type C, and of course, a 12vt socket found in the center. Now, this is just a walkound. So, normally Jack and I like to reserve our comments and suggestions for when we actually do review the car and opinions as well. But in this case, there is just one thing that I would complain about. That is a huge panel of piano black right there. You can probably put PPF on that. That’s how big that is. Grand piano black. Look at that, Jack. Look, look, look. I bet you didn’t know I knew that. That’s right. Tax, whatever. Folks, today is the day that the 2026 BYD tank DMI has been launched. It’s now available dealers nationwide. And the best way to get in touch with those dealers is through the Auto Deal app. You can download it for free on iOS or Android to help you get the best car at the best price.
