The WORST electric vehicle program ever!?
politicians will do anything to incentivize electric vehicles even if it’s financially disastrous for the people they claim to help and one state just proved it washington is phasing out the sale of new gas cars by 2035 so politicians had a bright idea to help low-income residents get an electric vehicle because apparently the biggest issue for people below the poverty line is driving a Tesla anyway on Earth Day last year Governor Jay Eninsley announced 45 million for an electric vehicle instant rebate program it would help low-income shoppers get up to $9,000 off an EV the state said the program would bring lease payments to under $200 a month which is wild considering the average car payment is $750 now to qualify for the program residents had to earn below 300% the federal poverty level so less than $45,180 for a single person or $93,600 for a family of four and some of the vehicles in the program made sense kind of like a Nissan Leaf for $28,000 but it also included cars like an $88,000 Audi Ron S and a surprisingly large number of luxury vehicles like Mercedes BMW and Jaguar all in the 70 to $80,000 range needless to say Dave Ramsey would not approve because the math ain’t math the most common car purchased was a Tesla Model 3 which retails for $45,000 and it’s a great reminder of how green energy lines the pockets of corporations people love to hate now maybe this would work for small business owners who structure their income to look poor for the government help me I’m poor but for actual low-income residents it’s a terrible purchase as they often have higher interest rates for loans so a year after the program’s announcement we are finally seeing the results and they are exactly what you would expect for $45 million Washington politicians drum roll please reduced emissions by 3100s of a percent that’s 03% needless to say the program was a flop and achieved half of its promised goals for every $1 in subsidies Washington received one penny in environmental benefit in fact the cost to reduce one metric ton of CO2 was 86 times the state’s current price the Washington Policy Center which is an economic think tank even compared it to paying $2,000 for a latte and because the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results Governor Eninsley’s proposed budget before leaving office included over 62 million to extend the program so what do you
On Earth Day last year, Governor Jay Inslee announced $45 million for an Electric Vehicle Instant Rebate Program. It would give low-income shoppers up to $9,000 off an EV. So a year after the program’s announcement, we are finally seeing the results and they are exactly what you would expect. #cars #car #automobile #electricvehicle #EV #electric
