All-New LEAF Insights – Ep1: Sleek, bold and thoughtful design | Nissan

LEAF is an icon for us, it’s one of our core heartbeat models. We’ve sold around 700 thousand LEAF since 2010. Over 28 billion kilometers
covered by our customers. So we have really substantial real world insight about the customer. Understanding their needs and
understanding how those needs have evolved since the early days of LEAF until now. We have a long established track record about durability and safety with LEAF and we knew this was really
a foundation to the next generation. We wanted this to be a really credible
alternative to a combustion car. To do this, we focused on three key things. The first one was about balancing the
emotional and rational appeal, ensuring the car looks sleek and bold whilst meeting the real world needs of families. The second point was around
supporting long distance travel, allowing users to confidently take a holiday journey
of 300 to 500km between stops, ensuring impressive highway speed and efficiency. The third important area was around,
bringing easy and seamless charging. We know that the average refueling stop
is around 14 minutes, and in that time we can add over 250km of charge
with seamless plug and charge capability. We reimagine the LEAF as a crossover, creating distinct personality, high-tech feel, and added advanced features. This is the most aero efficient car
we’ve ever made, with a drag coefficient of 0.26. The front fascia, sleek profile, wheel design, and active grille shutter
all contribute to this. It all starts at the front. The point where air first comes
into contact with the car. Not only is it sleek,
the fascia also demonstrates strength and premiumness
along with a sense of robustness. Even the panoramic glass roof
contributes to exceptional aerodynamics. It allows us to reduce the vehicle height at the critical air detachment point
by 12 millimeters, while maintaining the headroom inside courtesy of the e-dimming functionality. To prioritize the aerodynamics, we spent a lot of time on the fenders to get those areas right and
create beauty in the body surfacing. The all-new LEAF is not just about being
an eco-friendly option, it’s about being a credible
alternative to combustion engine vehicles.
