Tech Explained with Rob: The Axial Flux Motor of the AMG GT XX
Mercedes AMG has just changed the game when it comes to ultra high performance because of this, the Axial Flux motor. I’m Rob. I’m your tech explainer and this is Tech Explained. And today I’m going to tell you all about the incredible motors fitted to this new AMG. Follow me. I’ve taken this one apart to give you a closer look. So, so come in here. The main parts of the axial flux motor are the rotors and the stator. Now the rotors here are covered in magnets and the stator is packed full of copper wires. So electricity comes in through these parts here. The copper coils in here can generate an electromagnetic force which spins the rotors round at huge speed. Now a regular electric motor uses slightly different technology. The stator is on the outside and the rotor spins around the inside. All of this is much closer together in the real car. The rotors never touch the stator, but it means that an axial flux motor is generally 2/3 lighter and a lot more compact than a regular radial flux motor. And to turn all of this electromagnetic energy into something useful, we pack two axial flux motors into this higherformance drive unit. And Concept AMG GTX doesn’t just have two axial flux motors in the back. There’s also one in the front. I’ve only told you about one piece of technology in the concept AMG GTX axial flux motors. Please let me know what you think in the comments. Thank you for watching and please like and subscribe to see more in this tech explained series and I’ll see you very soon. Good idea.
Get ready to experience power like never before!
In this new episode our Techsplainer Rob delves into the Axial Flux Motor, a revolutionary innovation that transforms high-performance electric driving experience.
Compact, lightweight, and incredibly powerful, this new motor architecture flips the script: rotors lined with magnets, a stator packed with copper, and ultra-fast electromagnetic precision. Extremely high rotational speeds, all packed into a form that’s up to two-thirds lighter than conventional motors.
But it doesn’t stop there. The Concept AMG GT XX is equipped with not one, not two, but three of these motors, delivering power precisely where it matters most.
These engines will be built starting in 2026.
Watch now and discover why a new dimension of performance begins with a spin.
