Thinking of buying a used Electric Vehicle (EV)? Watch this first

I get a lot of questions about EVs, more specifically about uh pre-owned, used EVs. What are they worth? How do you evaluate them? What should you get? What type? What brand? What do you look for? All really clever and intelligent questions. And in all honesty, a lot of these questions I don’t have any answers for cuz I don’t know. And to be fair, I would say even some of the dealers, they don’t really know because the EV market, what is it? It’s about four or five years old here in Bahrain. So when we called up several places, uh Audi was the one that had the most EV cars. Logically, we thought they’d also have the most pre-owned EV cars, especially now that we said it’s about 4 or 5 years old. So some of them should be coming back from leases, from used pre-owned, um tradeins, and all that stuff. And sure enough, when we called them, they said, “Yes, we do have some pre-owned EV cars.” So, we asked them if we can come and check them out and just look at them and and get a an understanding of their value and also maybe be lucky enough to test drive one or two. [Music] Good news. They told us they have several pre-owned Audi EVs. I mean, quite a range from SUVs to saloons. I believe they have a Q8 to even told me they have an RSGT, which is a dream car. And I hope I can get my hands on that one. So, let’s go check them out quickly. Let’s go. This is the 2024 QA Sportback Ron with the S package. This is a premium all-electric SUV. Similar similar in size and everything as the standard Q8 petrol car except this one comes with two electric motors. Basically, it’s an everyday car for every person. Now, we said the car comes with two electric motors. Those two electric motors combined give you 504 horsepower. Basically, what that means 0 to 100 in about 5 seconds. 5 seconds. Yes, this is an everyday car for every person with a 5second 0 to 100 km. Now, what makes this SUV capable of doing such numbers and still gripping the road like glue is the fact that it’s a quattro all-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive system of the Audi. I mean, Audi’s known for their quattros. That’s actually one of Audi’s most famous word, Audi Quattro. This also is an all-wheel drive. It’s a quattro. And that enhances the driving experience of this particular car. Uh despite the fact it’s a SUV, it still drives like a sports car. Inside, the cabin is finished in black leather with S-line detail throughout. You’ve got dual screens, Audi virtual cockpit, and all the modern features that you’d expect. It’s practical, it’s comfortable, and with this trim and mileage, it feels more like a quiet upgrade than a compromise. Now, one thing I need to mention is that this car has uh electric side mirrors, and it’s next level ingenious. I’ve never actually been an electric car that has a screen on the door. I’ve been in cars that had a screen for a side mirror, but not on the doors. Usually they’re on the dashboard, but these are actually on the doors. So, you still have to look towards the doors, except you’re not looking up. You’re looking maybe 4 in below. And it does take a little bit getting used to, but once you get used to it, it’s just fantastic. [Music] And this is the Audi RS Ron GT, a high-performance electric GT supercar. It’s similar in size to the Audi RS7, but with three electric motors. It’s an everyday car, but not for every person. This is not just a beast of a car. It’s a very rare beast. You know, there’s only two of this in Bahrain. Two. There’s only two of these vehicles. When you get this vehicle, you’re one of two people among 1.7 million people that actually own this car in Bahrain. Talk about exclusivity. Now, let’s talk numbers. With three electric motors, this car pumps up 646 horsepower. translated zero to 100 km in around 3 seconds. That’s lightning speed. Of course, the car comes with launch control, making all these numbers possible. And thanks to its all-wheel steering and active air suspension, these numbers are not only possible, they’re possible in style and the utmost comfort and the most amazing grip of a car. I’d love to take this car on the circuit. This car turns heads everywhere you go. The black metallic finish, the carbon fiber roof, the RS specific wheels and laser matrix headlights gives it a sharp, aggressive presence without being over the top. And this RS dynamic package plus adds longife brake pads and enhanced performance modes for an even sportier drive. Inside, it’s a premium black interior with RS finishes, ventilated and massaging front seats, three-spoke flat bottom steering wheel, and an immersive Bangan Olson sound system. You also get helpful tech like heads-up display, audio presets, and park assist plus. [Music] Now, if you’re wondering what’s an Ron, basically Ron is the name that Audi uses to distinguish their electric vehicle lineup. I absolutely love the name. I mean, Ron, how cool is that name? Now, Audi began their electric lineup back in 2019, and they’ve got quite a variety of uh EV cars. And that’s the the beauty of Audi is they have a petrol and electric version of both models. You get to pick. Now what makes Audi more special when it comes to their EV lineups is they’re you know it’s Audi they have a history of technology that they have been involved in so much and so much research not to mention they’re part of Formula E which is the you know when you join a Formula E or Formula 1 for that matter is basically you’re doing it to develop your vehicle lineups that’s why Audi’s part of Formula E just participating in such an event gave them such an advantage on what to expect what they should do how to manage their EV vehicles Now, let’s talk about batteries. Arguably, that’s the most important part of the uh EV lineup. I mean, this is one of the reasons I’m doing this video is because we had so many people inquire about uh pre-owned secondhand EVs. The heart and soul of an EV is the battery part of it. Both car batteries are between 93 and 114 kW, offering you ranges between 480 to 580 km. Now, that’s pretty pretty good. And as I said in most of my videos, when it comes to reviewing EVs, Bahrain is the ultimate, the best country in the world when it comes to EVs. Its size is designed for EVs. You literally can’t go anywhere exceeding the range of any car, even cars that have only 200 kilometers, which actually nobody does that anymore. But that’s the beauty of having an EV in the in Bahrain. And of course, it fits with our overall outlook of our island, which is, you know, being environmentally friendly. Now, when it comes to charging, both cars can be charged up to 80% within 28 minutes using the fast charger, the 150 kW charger. Or you can charge using the 22 kW charger that actually comes with the car. And that takes about 4 hours. Still 4 hours. That’s like your iPhone. Our iPhone takes about 4 hours to charge it. And here is the best part of owning an Audi EV. Audi’s technology when it comes to batteries is next level. Their technology uses a 36 cell battery. Basically, what that means is if any part of that cell is not functioning well, it’s slow, it’s faulty, you just change that part of the cell. So, you have 36 cells, you just change the part that actually is not working. That is a huge, huge saving when it comes to battery replacements and fixing the car because one of the biggest costs in EVs is the battery. There’s no engines. There’s motors, but there’s no engine. And the batteries cost a lot of money. So Audi came up with a plan and said, “Look, you know what? We’re different. We’re going to have a battery that has 36 cells, and whatever part of that cell is faulty, you just replace that part.” Thus cutting costs of replacing batteries by a huge amount. So this is the 2024 Audi Q8 Sportback Ron that we’ve been testing. Now, it’s priced at around 34,000 dinars and has only 9,000 km on the clock. And then of course we have our 2024 RS Ron GT. An absolute beast in my opinion. The most beautiful EV out there in the world today. It’s just beyond gorgeous and it drives even better than it looks. So it’s pretty pretty impressive. Now what’s the price of this? This is going for just under 50,000. About 49,000 DR and has only 14,000 km. And I was just told that they also have a 2023 Sportback, kind of like the Q8, but it’s 2023 model. And and this one is only €29,000 and has only 22,000 km on it. So quite a variety. In fact, they have actually a lot of EVs over here. And I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to strike a really really good deal because this is a buyer market. So if you’re considering an used EV, then actually we found quite a selection for you over here. We’ve tested some of them and they’re pretty pretty impressive. And one of the things that we were actually pretty impressed about is the Audi pre-approved plus program. Every car in the Audi approved plus program goes through a 300 plus point inspection covering everything from electrical systems to body work. It’s more than just safety check. It’s about making sure the car performs and looks close to new. The coverage is solid, too. You get a prated 5-year manufacturer warranty, 5-year service package, 5-year roadside assistance, and an 8-year battery warranty, also prrated. They also offer financing, part exchange, and even trade-in options, which makes it easier, especially if you’re coming from petrol car. And because every car comes with a complete service history, you know exactly how it’s being maintained. No guesswork, no surprises. Now, there’s no denying that these are beautiful, gorgeous cars. I mean, after all, they’re Audi. Which brings me to my final thoughts and what I really learned today, which is not only important to know what kind of used EV you should buy, but even more important is where you should buy it from. Because what we learned from Audi is that you’re basically buying a pre-owned Audi practically new for a fraction of the price. You see, although EVs cost less to maintain, they still need some TLC. You still need to take care of them. They still need to be, you know, to have their software updated. You can’t really just go to the local garage to do that. You kind of have to go to the agent for this. And with what we found out from Audi, and I’m pretty sure this happens with the other dealers, but we’re visiting Audi, and this is what Audi’s telling us, is that they have a very extensive and very brilliant program when it comes to ticking off all the necessities of what a pre-owned car should have and should provide in addition to the warranty, in addition to all the things that actually the cars come with. The the way I see it is that although there’s a lot of hesitation behind the EV market, I mean, should I buy one? Should I not buy one? Is it going to be popular in the years to come? My opinion, they’re only going to get more and more popular. I mean, after all, these are EVs. And just like anything in life, life always progresses. I mean, remember when we used to have manual cars and then we had automatic cars? It’s just a natural transition. We’re having a natural transition between the petrol cars and the EV cars. It’s going to happen whether you like it or not. The question you should be asking is not whether or not if I buy a pre-owned EV, would it be worth anything in the future? Question you should be asking is that if I bought a pre-owned petrol car, would that be worth anything in the future? Because I can assure you there are a lot more people in the future that are going to be looking for EVs than they are for petrol cars. Now, I hope you learned a lot from this. I hope I answered most of your questions. For me, I’m going to see if they’re going to allow me to get back into the RSGT Iron Man car. Take care.
