Tesla buyers trading in more cars from auto brand than any other
Even though Tesla sales are down a little bit this year from last year, not to be honest, not hugely, they definitely are down a bit. It is interesting to see that Tesla is still getting a lot of new conquest sales, which is to be expected as more people buy electric cars. More people are moving away from internal combustion and they’re buying EVs. What that means is some brands barely selling EVs and if they do sell EVs, the ones they sell are not convincing. They’re just compliance cars. Tesla have come out and said, “You know what? One brand is buying RVs more than anyone else. Here’s who it actually is.” And it is interesting when this is happening to you. It’s bad because conquest sales are a big deal in the automotive industry. It’s why so many car brands will say, “If you own a Tesla, we’ll give you this massive discount. If you own a Tesla, we’ll give you this.” That’s very common for car companies to do that in the United States. It’s a conquest sale. And when you bought one brand, it’s very often you’ll stick with that brand. A lot of people who’ve bought a Toyota have been buying them for 50 years, even though modern Toyotas are nowhere near as good as other alternatives. It’s very, very normal. So, this is why that’s such a big deal. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. Great to have you with us. Mazda, just going to get straight to it. more new Tesla customers in Australia, I’ll get to the United States in a minute, trade in a Mazda than any other brand of car, said the boss of Tesla in Australia. And think about it, Mazdas are pretty much all internal combustion. Yeah. Uh there was an EV, the MX30, I think it was called, something like that. I did some videos on it, but guys, I’m getting Alzheimer’s or something. I’m getting old and tired, so I don’t remember the exact name. But anyway, I think it was MX30. That’s I think dead now because people weren’t buying it. The range was like 200 km, just abysmal range, which would be all right if it was cheap. Like 200 km EV would be fine if it was say like $15,000, but it was crazy. It was like 60 70,000. Monstrously expensive. In the US, it was a bit cheaper, but it was still way too expensive. So, we obviously want our older owners to trade up, said Tesla, and get the latest technology, but we want to get ICE, internal combustion engine cars off the road. That’s our absolute priority here, said Tesla in Australia. Um, interestingly enough, we do look at very closely at our tradein data, and Mazda is the number one brand. We’re seeing a lot of CX range vehicles. They’re all internal combustion with pretty anemic, underpowered engines. like for like in shape and size making that trans transition over to an EV. So, well done Mazda. You’re losing customers, lots of them. Uh Mazda sold a lot of their CX5s, CX3s, CX whatevers. There’s a few different CX models. I’ve never understood the appeal, but they they were for years one of the bestselling vehicles in Australia. And I think a lot of people that own one now are going, “Well, actually, it’s not as great as I thought it would be. It’s just a Mazda with a diesel or petrol engine.” In the United States, uh, the numbers are a bit different. Um, obviously there’s not as many Mazda sold in the United States in terms of percentage numbers as Australia, but in the United States, the two Conquest brands, they’re pretty much joint, are Toyota and Honda. So yeah, more Americans are buying Teslas who own Toyotas and Hondas than any other brand in America, which yeah, makes sense as well. I mean, Toyota hasn’t sold many electric cars in the the US and neither is Honda. Both of them are trying a little bit harder now, which is good to see. But yeah, you can really see that a lot of a lot of diehard Toyota fans, a lot of diehard Honda fans, there is a lot of them out there, but some of them are clearly saying, you know what, it’s time to go electric. Interesting, isn’t it, that it’s all Japanese brands. It’s not General Motors or Ford. It’s all um or even, you know, some of the other big car companies, Volkswagen, it’s actually all Japanese. All all car brands that really didn’t take electric cars seriously. Toyota didn’t and still don’t really to be honest. Honda didn’t and really don’t still on a global scale. Um Mazda obviously don’t at all. Their goal they say is their number one goal is to perfect the internal combustion engine. They said that 6 months ago. So yeah, interesting to see that this is what happens. Disruption happens when you don’t take it seriously. You don’t take it, you know, you don’t take electrification seriously and you actually get disrupted. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Have you bought a car and then moved to an EV? What car did you move away from? What was the internal combustion engine brand that you last bought from? Thanks for watching. In a pretty shocking surprise result, Tesla has beaten Toyota in reliability. Customers were asked to fill out a survey to say, “What is their experience? Is your car more reliable?” And well, Tesla came in first place, which is interesting because I thought Toyota was meant to be the the most reliable car brand in the world. Now, as you guys know, my experience with Toyota, I’ve had a couple of Toyotas in the past. One of my Toyotas was an absolute bucket of junk. The engine literally the head gaskets blew three times and I didn’t drive the thing like a mad dog. I really didn’t. By the time the third it had happened the third time I was driving the thing very gently because I was worried that I had no money to afford for another broken engine and I did had to replace the entire engine. I had another Toyota after that which was actually very reliable. So I I think that really your experience depends on the make and model. Right. Anyway, here are the results of this survey. Hello my friends, welcome to the channel. I’m Sam Evans. You’re watching the Electric Viking. Tesla critics usually, well, will say electric cars aren’t reliable. Not just Teslas, they’ll say in general, electric cars, they’re cheap. Um, particularly, they’ll say this about Tesla, though. Uh, materials quality is terrible. There’s big panel gaps. I mean, all this stuff is obviously not true anymore, but people still say it, don’t they? A survey from the UK shows the opposite is true. Tesla is not just the country’s overall best rated car brand, it’s also the second most reliable car maker. Guys, I understand this video will be controversial right now. I understand people’s emotions are very charged and they’ll be thinking Electric Vikings just all he’s just trying to say something good about Tesla. Ah, I hate this. I understand that. I understand where you’re coming from. I get it. Anyhow, the survey was conducted by honest.co.uk, UK, which asked its readers to rate their cars across many metrics such as efficiency, reliability, practicality, safety, comfort, and performance. Now, well over 6,000 respondents participated in the survey, which was a very large number. So, what the results were was Tesla was the UK’s best rated car brand with a satisfaction index rating of 89.4%. In second place was Lexus, which had a satisfaction rating of 86.3%. And in third place was Porsche with 84.8. Honda was next with 84.7. SCOD was after that with 84.5. You can see there was quite a bit of daylight between Lexus in second place and Tesla. I mean 3 percentage points doesn’t sound like a lot, but actually it’s a pretty significant difference. This is a bit of a surprise because we know JD Power in the US often um and there’s other survey companies in the US that often will say Tesla, yeah, great. or Tesla terrible. It’s sort of all over the place, but it is common. And I think a lot of buyers respond have responded to my videos and said, “I don’t get the negativity here. My Tesla’s being or my electric car, my Tesla potentially has been a really good car.” Tesla critics do often criticize, they do often criticize Teslas and say that there’s problems with them. And then you get so many people, I joined a forum many years ago uh on Facebook, the high mileage Tesla owners forum, and most people say that they’ve had their cars done hundreds of thousands of miles and never had to replace anything. There’s an occasional situation where people have gotten a lemon, but most of the time Tesla’s reliability seems to be very high. [Music]

A new study shows that Toyota is the most traded-in brand among Tesla buyers, highlighting a growing shift from reliable ICE vehicles to EVs. Many former Toyota owners are opting for the Model Y and Model 3 as their first electric car experience.
