EV’s and Hybrid cars are about to get penalized. #cars
The big beautiful bill is set to punish every single car owner in this country whose vehicles have batteries in them that do things other than just run the starter motor. That is millions and millions of vehicles. EVs will be charged $250 annually for the privilege of driving a fully EV vehicle. Hybrids and plug-in hybrids will be charged $100 every year. States, including Pennsylvania, will impose additional taxes. $200 for EVs and I believe another $100 for hybrids. So if you have a full EV, it will in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, it will cost you $450 a year in taxes on top of whatever else you’re already paying. I find it odd that the reasoning, at least in terms of Harrisburg, which is Pennsylvania state capital, the reason for our tax on EVs, is that, oh, you’re not buying gasoline, therefore you have to pay your fair share of the road tax, which I understand, but I wish they were more equitable about it because what about the people who have big old gas guzzlers like this. This 1963 Galaxy is more than making up for any gas saving of this electric Kia. I think it’s perfectly reasonable if you have a big big chunky vehicle that loves loves gasoline that you should be exempt from any sort of tax, especially those of us who own multiple vehicles. We’re playing we’re paying plenty of tax. And what is this going to do to the middle of the road people? People who are on neither part of the political spectrum, but suddenly find themselves staring down the barrel of $450 every single year as punishment. I don’t think it’s fair. But I also recognize that can I afford the bill? Yes, I can afford it. Will I feel it in the long run? Yeah, probably not. So I guess that some people would also say that imposing such taxes on EVs is just a way of making those who can pay their fair share. So from seeing the other side, I I get it. Even though I don’t like it, even though I don’t agree with it, I get it.
