The Making of a Lion | EPISODE 2 | CHASE ON: LE MANS
If I say 24 hours of lemon, what does Malto Jacobson say? The 24 hours of lemon is by far the biggest event of the year. It’s 24 hours. It’s brutal. It’s long. It’s difficult. It’s the biggest motor race in the world. [Music] And it keeps attracting people from all over the world to come to Blumour in France every summer to watch this race. In Denmark, we didn’t have a Danish Formula 1 driver. At that point, all I knew was was the 24 hours of Lemon. And that was like my goal to be able to race at Lemon one time during my career. And then I was super fortunate to actually be going down one time in 2010 with my dad to watch the race in person. [Music] To be able to be a part of that 10 years later is just amazing. As a driver, there is a rule that you cannot do more than 4 hours driving time within 6 hours. So you cannot just, you know, keep one driver for 8 hours in a row and then having him finish. So to be able to relax yourself and recharge your batteries can be very very difficult sometimes. One driver jumps out and the other one jumps in, redo the belts, plug the radio, and then you’re ready to go. What’s the song that they use? Like they play like an anthem before the race starts. I can’t remember what it’s called. [Applause] Like [Music] [Applause] And then the cars are coming up this start finish line and up the red lights goes and it’s all green and we go racing. Huge part of the job of being a driver is managing fuel and tires. If you could imagine that you could save a bit of fuel every lap on average, maybe you go a lap longer at the end of the race. It could maybe cancel a whole pit stop. It could potentially cost you track position as well compared to your competitors. Then it’s all about taking the right calls and the right decisions. And that’s why we have the engineers helping us and giving us information about what to do. And then that should bring us the confidence and the feeling that to be able to go faster. This is what makes up for all the hard work and what makes us come back every year.
