Lexus NX450h+ 2025 review: F Sport | Popular plug-in hybrid family car targets new Audi Q5 PHEV

The 2025 Lexus NX450h+ marks the return of the Japanese premium brand’s plug-in hybrid (PHEV) mid-size SUV, which sold out on debut in early 2022. Of course, the NX has been available with a hybrid powertrain for quite some time, but the NX450h+ differentiates itself with its plug-in capabilities, as opposed to the ‘self-charging’ alternative.

Specifically, the all-wheel-drive NX450h+ combines a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol four-cylinder engine and two electric motors for a combined power output of 227kW. Its 18.7kWh battery pack enables an NEDC-rated driving range of up to 87km, although you can expect a lower return in the real world.

Speaking of which, in this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar and her family of three spend a week living with the NX450h+’s F Sport flagship to find out how well the Audi Q5 PHEV rival performs in reality.
