   A charger malfunction caused the Z11 to burn to the ground. It was replaced in 1993 with the [gas-electric hybrid Z13](https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/nvAYo/s1/1993-bmw-z13-concept.jpg), a distant predecessor to the i3.
